I know a few dudes towing big fivers with both...the ford will not get by the Max...especially on long grades. What I hear is the ford goes gear hunting with the Navistar's narrower powerband/poorly programmed tourqesh*tz... and the Max/Ally just picks a gear, holds a steady R and just yarns on by.

Even with new injectors it doesn't seem to pull like it did when it was new. Mine is an 03. Got 75K on right now. Pulling.... I'm still pulling snowmobiles so were talking about 5000 lbs. Will be getting the scarab out of storage soon. (sorry cig guys, still lookin to upgrade to the cig) But still, I'm talkin bout pulling 11-12K with the scarab. I'll be talkin to some more people about adding a chip. But you are right about the allison. What a great transmission.
