Apologies..... what is " pic 2254" ?? ( Don't know what photo you are asking about)......
All's I can guess...... The Aronow U19 used # 2 Merc drives. ( If we used Arnesons, we would have dominated the series..., The #2 drives..... we ate them up like potato chips.

I never heard of any restrictions to engines. All's I know, Keith Black said, the application, best for the boat was his 'Sprint car' style engine package.
A high revving 'flat crank' set-up. ( flat crank : The pistons fired "1-3-5-7 / 2-4-6-8 ".... One bank fired then other bank fired / 'left-side / right-side"....
( If I described that correctly ? ) It sounded like a 'bee-hive' at full power. Very reliable. The Mercruiser drives broke often. ( frustrating for me, since we installed the Hemi's at Howard Arneson's shop.... removing the ' low torque' Cosworths. As I was looking at Surface Drives nearby !! ( Maybe, there wasn't a way to send the power to the drives, for our 'special' set-up, at the time?? Especially being out on the road..... to service it....
