For you newbies....he was THE MAN. Never mind what he did in boat racing, just his exploits before then were super amazing.

Survived 2 parachute landings where the chute didn't open. After one of them he resuced the pilot and then walked 20 miles through jungle to get help for the rest of the bomber crew.

Smuggled rubies out of India where he was ferrying bombers "Over the Hump"

Started the Gold Coast Marathon ...and won it a couple of times.

Won Miami Nassau the first 4 out of 5 times it was run.

We are putting up a special secion on him as we did on Aronow in the Diamond Anchor section of the site.

When the World Offshore Title was in top ,the reigning Champion received the Sam Griffith Trophy because the Offshore people recognized in him the founder of their sport.
However we must rember that togheter with Griffith was another Sea Race pioneer: Richard Bertram.
