On that 35, it almost looks like the bulkheads were cut open to make more room under there....way up front it even looks like a flat piece was put in for a bed??
May not weaken it, just doen't look like right. Here is the inside of Michelob Light....the boat Ratman is restoring......they are open too, but they started this way, not cut later. The other photo is the inside of Yellow Warpath....look way up in front. |
Prob a ballast tank....residue.....Ha!
|
Hey Toasty...are you racing your 30FT Sutphen this year?
What race boat was it, before you brought back out as "Toasty"? |
Any marks or numbers I wonder on the hull? Sweet looking machine. Oh to be rich!
|
That pic of the bulkheads has me guessing too.
The way that they meet at a "corner" at the deck joint, instead of "rounded" seems like it would be a substantial loss in lateral strength. "Residue":D I'd bet if there was anything that was in that hull that would cause "residue" it wasn't in there long enough be the source.:D Just looks like mold to me. Wish I was to the challenge - that looks like a helluva lot of work. |

I was looking at the transverse bulkheads and they definately are not symetrical...
In my opinion if you wanted one of these old 35 flatdecks Daddy Cool was THE boat to buy about a year ago. Ernie Mark breaking those bulkhead with the hatch doesn't seem very good either... stiffeners need to be beefed up and or the hatch should be surrounded with a bulkhead.. I design steel ships and offshore structures... but I would be fired if I allowed drawings to go out whis a ring frame knothced like that. |

It's got to be a great story - I'd love to hear it. How'd it wind up getting seized, who was running the goods (cartel)...etc. Kinda cool to have a boat that has a "history". |

Bounty Hunter-- I have a little information--I don't know much about what el indio was saying about the boat being a drug boat because the boat was offered to me 4-5 years ago by a gentleman named Manny. The boat was painted black and the engines were fresh from Cobra Power. Also, the hatch in the front deck on the port side was not there at that time. So as far as it being a drug-running boat I haven't a clue. The boat was all black with a purple Cigarette stripe, with a purple and silver Cigarette logo on the side and was in great condition. Since then it looks like it has gone downhill for the last 4-5 years.

I'm pretty certain his must be free and clear of the DEA. It makes for interesting reading about boats still out there today that played a part of history, and the building of this sport. If you saw it for sale a few years ago wearing different paint, without the hatch, is this speculation that it has been a "work" boat? Just curios, I love stories about the history of these old boats, even if it only that, a "story". |

Bounty Hunter--I thought you were interested in the 35 since that is what the thread is about. Just trying to help man.
|
cut and dry.......the guy took a chance and got caught..did his time and moved on with his life..
p.s.. it makes great reading..sex, drugs and crime in general have a large audiance. if the miami vice movie focused on the bad guys and all the fun they were having it would have been a success. |
looks like a square grouper harvester to me. How many race boats had cup holders. Look at the interior pics. The bulkheads in my cig are bigger than that and I have a cabin. I love it though, if I had the cash (to do it right), it would be my new hotrod

If you saw it for sale a few years ago, and it didn't have the hatch back then, are you saying they are still running drugs into the states using Go-Fast boats?? I was under the impression that those days were long gone and that most of the drugs coming in these days are in containers on ships. |
the 41 has the hatch.........same owner since 94....same hatch....35 has no hatch that i can see....r/g at c/p spoke of a similar boat a few years back...never looked at it....
|

We have an old Donzi in our shop now that we are redoing. The deck is like that in the bow, a lot of the coring is rotted & had allowed everything to flex & delaminate inside.. We have to redo the deck on this thing now.. Regardless, the boat in the thread looks like it would still be a neat project if the time & money to do it right is going to be dedicated to it.. :) Jamie / Lakeside . |
