Bertram High Performance Boat?
I was @ Norwalk Cove Marina (CT) today & saw a great looking older style H/P boat that had no HIN # but it had Bertram on the side. Anyone know anything about a 26-31' H/P boat built by Bertram. It had to be pretty old registration sticker on it was from 1988 (but my eyes told me late 60's/early 70's). I would love to know more about it looks like a great project

I don't know anything about them, but there is one for sale and has been for a long time.

I think they made 10 or 11 Barons
I was lucky enough to have had one They came with 351 Fords with Volvo drives or 6 cyl Chevys with merc drives. |

During that same time period, Bertram also made a boat that length that was strictly a race boat.....did it look more like this?

Here is one more, looks like someone made a copy, a 28' Outlaw 7' beam just like a Bertram hull and a few deck modifications.

Welcome lilabner....nice first post. If you have more photos of that boat we would like to have them posted on HORBA www.historicraceboats.com |
I think that is the best one..my wife took them because I was in the boat with Richard B..I worked for Holman Moody and took over when Jim Manders left Bertram..It was at the St Pete race in 68 or 69..the slide was developed in Feb 69..I will post it there also..

Butch Stokes It was the first 31'Competition built together with the Master Moppie of Rittmaster in 1967. What end has it made that boat then? |

I had a 66 Caddy Coupe DeVille with factory airbags . Wasn't the best tow vehicle with its rear coil suspension . That boat in the picture was way to big for the Caddy's 5000 lbs tow capacity .On the other hand my 64 Lincoln was more suitable for towing with its rear leaf spring suspension.
http://www3.telus.net/spectrasonly/6....76Spectra.jpg http://www3.telus.net/spectrasonly/L...064%20rear.jpg Back in the 60's people towed trailers way over weight what these passenger cars were made for. There was an ad showing a FWD Olds Toronado with one of the rear wheels removed , towing a travel trailer to show off its capability . No one in his right mind would tow a boat with a FWD with all wheels on today, hehe. BTW , there is a nice old sporty 25 Bertram locally here that I see on and off busting waves like no other.Wonder who has this oldie if in fact it's still around at all . http://www3.telus.net/spectrasonly/3...m%20Moppie.jpg |
here are two boats from England . On the right is a wood hull by Workboats , the one on the left is a GRP raceboat by Tolcraft .

Could be Steve Sirois??????????????? anyway I was in all the Bahama 500`s and won two of the later ones. One with Bonomi in 1974 and one with Gentry 1976, they were 500 kilometers long. Great races. 7XCHAMP |

Richie - Dale Thayer ran #505 (28' Memco w/4 BPs) in 1969 Bahama 500. He finished 1st outboard. I ran #909 (32 Cary w/4 BPs). However, I did run the #505 later that year in another race (Sam Griffth?) and finished 1st Outboard.
-Steve Sirois |
Wow! I just saw the Outlaw 28 (pic by H20) That was my old boat .......where is it these days?? That was a splash from the old bertram 28......boat was a beast for a 28!

I just viewed the # 505 boat pictured, and now am not sure if that is the boat I was in, as the name on the back is Super BP

Have you still gone to see the new films of Graham Stevens on Boatmad.com? Marco |
