Brownie, what´s the story with the Cigarette 33 Limited Edition from 1979 with only 11 made? Did you build that?
|
No, I was at Magnum in '79, up to my ass in 53' Magnums. It was just a 32' stretch or a 36' shrink.

Estarmer, I'd be interested if the price were right. I always like the boat . . . if you could get some detailed pics of it that show present condition and email them to me, I'd appreciate it.
At any rate, someone should save her . . . and buy my 35' Mistress so I can play with something else! Thanks, Harry |

Yeah, like i wrote in post #5 :-). Bill Wishnick´s Boss O'Nova II, was not a Cary, but a real Cigarette 32' (it had the deck from the new Cigarette 36'). During 1972-73 Willie MacDonald drove the former Boss O'Nova II as Wild Willie Boss O'Nova.

Hi Marco, i´m reading a swedish boatmagazine from 1972 and there is an article from the boatshow in Genua. The article says that Intermarine in Italy builds a Cigarette 32, I guess under license. Anything you heard about?

A cool ad from Cary
|
Aronow licensed Ronnie Bonelli who was connected to Intermarine, to build the Cigarettes and Carys under license in Italy about that time.

As already told by BROWNIE that years the Intermarine built a certain number of hulls of 32' on license Cigarette / Cary. This series took the name of Iguana from the name of the first built sample. Ronny Bonelli was owner of the yard Firebird Racing Team where its competition boats were prepared but it also had affairs with the Intermarine. Rumors also say that the second Cigarette 36' Lady Nara of Bonelli had always been built in Italy in 1972 by the Intermarine on license of the Cigarette. Marco |

Here a bad but only image of a Iguana 32'.

Hi Marco,
I saw that you started a thread about this 7th of february :-)... It seems like very few were built. Aronows 3 "the cigarette", Peter Rothchilds "Thunderballs" + three outboard versions by Cary and only one by Cigarette Racing Team - Boss O'Nova II aka Wild Willie Boss O'Nova during 72-73 aka Red Baron during 73-75. That gives only 8 hulls, 7 by Cary and 1 by Cigarette. Is that right? |

By the way Marco, which 32 is this? It has a different paintjob.
|
I do believe the all-white 32 for sale was once owned by "Cary" from Syracuse NY and was taken to Fla. to be brokered about the time frame of the previous sighting. All details of power/drives/trailer are correct, as well as the all white paint.
I thought it was a pretty cool piece. Saw it up close and ran with it a number of times. Cary can be found infrequently in the Superboat forum, runs a black sided 30Y2K up here in the 1000 Islands |

With this name, Blue Tornado style. In that version Balestrieri run the first race in Capetown in 1970. |

Yeah a project for sure. If it didn't have that deck I might have asked some more questions. With Staggered engines and what looks like ballast tank drains that have been filled, I wonder what its history was? Wonder if it was ever raced?
MY BROTHER AND I WENT TO TAKE A LOOK AT HER A COUPLE MONTHS AGO. NOBODY SEEMS TO KNOW HER HISTORY, BUT I BELIEVE SHE WAS DEFINETLY A RACE BOAT AT ONE TIME. IT LOOKS AS IF THE FACTORY COLOR/GELCOAT WAS RED, INSIDE & OUT. SHE NEEDS SOME GLASS WORK, BUT SHE SEEMS VERY SOILD, ESPECIALLY FOR A 1972MDL. ALL THE DRIVETRAIN LOOKS INTACT, SPEEDMASTER#3'S BBC'S WITH SOME WACKY EXHAUST. (YOU CAN SEE IN THE SECOND PIC THE OUTLETS ARE VEEERY LOW! OWNER SAYS THERE THE ENGINES ARE 496'S CAN'T TELL, BUT I COULD SEE GOLD CRANE ROLLER ROCKER ARMS UNDER THE BREATHERS. PUT A BREAKER BAR ON THE CRANKS, BUT WOULD'NT TURN. NICE MYSTERY PACKAGE, BUT FOR $7500 (NO TRAILER) I THINK ITS A PRETTY GOOD DEAL, EVEN ASSUMING A TOTAL RESTO, BOAT AND POWER. THE SPEEDMASTERS ARE WORTH A LITTLE COIN ALONE... JUST MY .02 THOUGH... anymore info on that cary i would appericate it
Christian |
Chris,
Race cockpit, 3-man rack only, left hand steer. Dipstick check revealed vanilla milkshake, but with that wacky azz exhaust, (looked like something from super mario bros.) I can see that water could easily been pulled in with any sort of semi-serious motors. The motors appeared decent though. Like i said, i could see the alumn. roller rockers. Other than that, externally it had the normal treatment, holleys dp's, edelbrock intakes, aftermarket valve covers. Staggered engines, Owner said they were original Kiekenhaffer 482's or 496's but can't tell without digging in. Aftermarket HYD. steering, looks added on, maybe not tooo long ago. I really think the boat is sold for its age. I mean it definetly needs to be stripped down to do it right, but the transom, stringers, and bulkheads look, felt, sounded soild. But i'm no expert glass guy, so.... Looks like it was painted a couple times also. I think the raised deck looks hardcore nostalgic. Another guy told me it was the old GOLD-RUSH c-class racer from the northeast, back in the day, but I can't find any info to back that statement up. I know for a fact its been sitting at this guy Randys shop for the past 9-yrs. Because we bought this piece of **** 30' excalibur from this guy back in 1998, and it was there. Ten years ago he was asking something retarded for it. Then, this past summer we stumbled across it again, same guy had it, but moved his shop to outside of Charlotte NC. Looks exactly the smae when we looked at it almost 10yrs ago!! My bro. almost bought it this time. He had 7k to f*** up for a winter project, and it was between this boat, and a 38 flat deck scarab up on the island. I thought the cary was a better deal, but chosse the scarab. In hind-sight, I believe he would have chosse different now. Anyway, if your intrested, call me at the shop tomorrow, and i can dig out the guys number that owns the boat. I'm sure its still there. Thats funny you ask. This scuffy old guy comes stumbling in the shop about a week ago, i mean he could of passed for a home-less mountain man or something, tells me he's new to the area, just moved from Chicago, saw the hot rod boats out front and heard some motors, just wanted to stop in, blah-blah-blah, I mean i fiqured this cat is looking for some scrap to haul off for a buck or something. Well anyway, I'm about to shoo him back out the door, when he whips out this stack of photos of all this custom boat upholstry. Tells me he had this 20 man shop for like the past 30yrs, and all he did was boats and custom cars, ect-ect. So we start b.s.-ing a little, and he's telling me he lost everything in a divorce a few years ago and, he's gone through some real rough times, but now he's looking to start a custom boat interior shop here in Wilm,. and do i have any work?? So I show him the old rack seat in my boat, it needs to be all re-done. Guy says, no problem, I can do it, double stuff it, new cover, candy stripe, fat pleats, whatever you want. I'll take it with me and do it. I don't think so, i tell'em, i mean i don't now this cat, and like i said, he looks like he's had a few already today. No problem, he says, i'll take the cover off it now, if thats not a problem, make a new cover, & foam over the week, and come back next Sat, and finish it here in my mobile truck. Cool, come back sat. Well, to make a long story short, this guy rolls up sat. in an old van, no plates, I mean, you had to be here. Anyway, he rebuilds the seat, in the van, takes a few hours, but it comes out fuggin' nice! Seriously, the guy is talented. But the best part was he only charged me $200!!! I know your in Jerz, but it may be worth it to send it down. |
you gotta post some pics of that seat that story is priceless!
that way i can see what your boy has to offer! my e mail is [email protected] |

You beat me to it. I looked at it with Greg October 1999 when I was down for the Ft Lauderdale boat show. It looks identical today as it did back then. I think it had 3's on it, and the cabin needed to be fixed up if you planned to spend any time down there. The 3 man set up is very, very tight. If I remember right, a Saudi 20-something year old owned it at the time. Pic from when I looked at it. Cool boat, but a big project for sure.

OLSKOOL72 - Any Idea where that hull that you looked at my be now?? Reaching far here I know, but had to ask. Love it!
|
A guy named John bought it and is restoring it. He's from the Carolinas some where. That was my old boat, I bought it as a basket case years ago from the original owner. I now have a 29'9" Cary that was Bob Lathams.
|
Anyone have any information on production numbers of the smaller Cary hulls? 26, 28,29.9, not the 32s...
