Richie,I know well that there were two Scarab 38' for Ippolito.
The first one was that with the knocked corners off the raise in the deck and the exhaust through the deck.
Named Outrageos in the first race, the Bushmills Grand Prix of 1978,then later purchased by Bernie Little that renamed it Michelob Light. With this boat Ippolito and Stuteville had an accident during the Bacardi Trophy of the 1979.
Then Ippolito had the second Scarab Michelob Light with which competed the World Championships in Venice the same year.

That particular of the knocked corners that also you have said is unique among all the Scarab 38' built for the competitions.
And this particular reappeared on the deck of the Mr. Terrible in 1985.
However you know better of me that story and if you are sure that Mr. Terrible was a original new Scarab 38' I belive in you.
Have you and your relatives a Good Christmas and Holidays too!

I think we can eliminate the Champagne Mumm cig from the discussion - FLying Fish over on Boatmad is of the same opinion that this boat was a standard Cig 35 (Awesome) that at one stage was indeed re-rigged with the Jag turbo motors - without success.

Fast pleasure boat not a thoroughbred for competitions.

If I have understood right regarding the production boats the mistress was a flat deck and the awesome a raised deck for a more spacious cabin. The mistress could be ordered with either a split windscreen or a straight windscreen.

I think that the Champagne Mumm then must have been a mistress because I can´t possibly think that they raced with a raised deck. But a picture of the boat will be the judge. :-)

Merry Christmas to you all.

35 Ciggys

Here are a few more puzzles for Xmas.

If Ajac Hawk was ex-American Eagle, was it stretched from 35 to 37.5.Assume Hot Shot,Popeyes then Stilletto,The Collection,Spirit Special,E.T. were all 37.5 as built.
Another 35 was Executioner (1979)-J.Rosatti.
Lengths are as usual dependant on reports in entry lists and mags, and from experience this can vary a lot.Same goes for stated horsepowers.

Another puzzle for you Inspector Marco. After you have finished burning a hole through Champagne Mumm with your magnifying glass, perhaps you would like to have a go at Mr.Terrible.

I have it listed as the same boat,a Scarab 38.

Eagle one (1981 & 1984) - P.King
Mr.Terrible (1984 & 1985) - J.Herbst (No 14 & 19 repectively)

Jerry Jacoby first ran the ex American Eagle 35´as Ajac Hawk then he had the first 37,5 built actually called 37,6 X and ran it also as Ajac Hawk later Cigarette Hawk and later Super Brut. El boss, Hot Shot are 37,6 X´s.

I think that Popeyes then Stilletto was a Scarab 38 or?
