Cigarette 35 Raceboats
#83
When the cover came off, the numbers on the back of the boat were 37.6. Jerry had Don Aronow block the 39 foot mold and pulled this 37.6 foot boat out of it.
The boat would not win a race until June of 1980 in the Bahamas 200.
Later of course, it became known as the Top Gun 38 model.

Hi Doctor!
When I have seen the photo that you have put of the Champagne Mum to the first hit I have immediately thought about the legendary 35' of Doxford. Would been for that #77 so equal.
Then making an "american comparison" and using my lenses I have drawn the conclusion that Champagne Mum was the Bloodhound with the cockpit modified that made it more next to the Limit Up.

Here are a few more puzzles for Xmas.
If Ajac Hawk was ex-American Eagle, was it stretched from 35 to 37.5.Assume Hot Shot,Popeyes then Stilletto,The Collection,Spirit Special,E.T. were all 37.5 as built.
Another 35 was Executioner (1979)-J.Rosatti.
Lengths are as usual dependant on reports in entry lists and mags, and from experience this can vary a lot.Same goes for stated horsepowers.

That of the 35' Ajac Hawk simply lengthened to 37'5 it's a novel put around by someone.

Another puzzle for you Inspector Marco. After you have finished burning a hole through Champagne Mumm with your magnifying glass, perhaps you would like to have a go at Mr.Terrible.
I have it listed as the same boat,a Scarab 38.
Eagle one (1981 & 1984) - P.King
Mr.Terrible (1984 & 1985) - J.Herbst (No 14 & 19 repectively)
I have it listed as the same boat,a Scarab 38.

Mr.Terrible (1984 & 1985) - J.Herbst (No 14 & 19 repectively)
The beautiful photo of the Mr Terrible that you have put comforts me in the fact that it was the old first Michelob Light of Ippolito.

Jerry Jacoby first ran the ex American Eagle 35´as Ajac Hawk then he had the first 37,5 built actually called 37,6 X and ran it also as Ajac Hawk later Cigarette Hawk and later Super Brut. El boss, Hot Shot are 37,6 X´s.
I think that Popeyes then Stilletto was a Scarab 38 or?

The first Popeyes for Copeland was another Cigarette 37'6,that whose bow was fatal to Joel Halpern.
Then Copeland had another white Popeyes but Scarab 38', that became Honcho.
Stiletto was the former first Popeyes 37'6.

Thanks guys for your input re Ajac Hawk and Mr.Terrible.
I will adjust my database.
I notice there now mumurs of having a historical listing of Cigarettes,Magnums,Scarabs etc,and as Marco and Little Nige know, I have been working on this for a number of years and am constantly updating it with the odd piece of new info that appears on these sites. There will come a time when hopefully it will be fully updated. So this is to say that something does exist (so far circa 200 builders plus one off`s are filed, and for reference Cougar are the biggest with Skater coming close).
The listing forms a companion to the race result sheets on Boatmad.com,so the lower classes in the USA are not covered.
By the way Marco, any progress with the CUV update?

Some more CRT pix for your database.....Saugatuck, Michigan '82.
The Popeyes shot is kinda funny; where's Ware? Can only assume that Al is waving to their missing navigator...marooned back at Coral Gable's bar?!
