Can anybody help me with this one? In the shot with the alloy cougar in aqua - what boat was that? Was there ever an Aj Roberts alloy cougar? Is that Steve Curtis standing with his back to the camera? Pete Downey - english mechanic on board. It looks a lot like the Bonner Supercat, but the team in my mind doesn't match the boat?
Nigel, an old and sad history that of the cat Cougar of Anthony Joseph Roberts.
Originally that boat was built for Joel Halpern in 1981 after he had lost the preceding cat in wood of 35.'
Then the bow of Popeyes destroyed the life of a great champion.
That cat remained to the floridian yards of Cougar for a lot of time, apparently without a future, after what had happened.
In 1984 the German king of the casino' Albert Ehrich that it decorated him some title of Don, it appeared to the world finals APBA of Key West with that boat a little modified and the named Cabrera and he would probably have won the title if he was not withdrawn to the last race.
The year after the cat went to A.J.Roberts Jnr that took with him also Steve Curtis. They won the finals at Key West, this time UIM and APBA showing the validity of that tin boat of 38' with the cockpits still in old way.
It was the first winning action of a history not yet ended for Steve.

A little off topic, the top picture in post 75, the yacht in the back ground is "Monkey Business", the yacht that Presidential candidate Gary Hart in his "friend" Jennifer Flowers made famous. It also ended Hart's candidacey.

Thanks Ryan-I was wondering if the raceboat and the yacht were related.

Quick story from my past: I was originally partners with Don and Jeff Soffer when I had my original Champion Marine custom Rigging shop, They eventually bought my little business and we formed a three way partnership and built the once famous Champion Marine. Anyway when I had my small shop Jeff used to hang out alot, Jeff and I and Don went back several years as friends at Turnberry, Jeff was very young but very talented as a wheel man, so when I used to test the Popeye`s etc. I would call jeff to test with, we ran a lot of wild boats together. The story. Don wanted an Aronow 39` cat with Diesels, he called me to put the deal together and do the custom rigging, I did a really cool rig job on the boat, Don used to stop all the time to check progress, when the boat was done and ready for graphics or name, Don came over, we all looked at the blank white sides, and Don in his dry humor looked at me and said NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. I said what, he said it again. The boat was named NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS, Jeffs pink and teal boat was an old Shadow 30` after we built the new Champion Marine Dealership we were Skater dealers he ran a 32` Skater outboard, then the 40` Skater Budweiser. I would get in a boat with Jeff anyday and go racing, he is that good.

Very interesting, there's a 39 USA cat in docked in Key West with "NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS" on the hull sides. It always struck me odd. Got to be the same one!

Great reading guys, love the Classic Offshore!
