Anybody know what these square aluminum tubes are? Its on a 35 Cig Flatdeck and they are mounted under the rear seat and stick through a hole in the bulkhead into the bilge. Pretty stout construction to. I'm sure its something simple but i cant figure it out :cool-smiley-011:

Pantera24 02-25-2008 09:52 PM

Could it be a drain ??? One hell of a drain! hahaha

glassdave 02-25-2008 10:16 PM

no, they are welded together. Stacked like in the pic and pretty heavy duty. The flange on the inside has a nice weld on it, it was specifically built for something. Atleast it sure looks like it. :cool-smiley-011:

Dangerous Dave 02-26-2008 09:02 AM

Possibly a bracket for an easily removable rear seat or inflatable life raft (if a race boat). Are there scratches on the inside of the tubes from something sliding in or out?

glassdave 02-26-2008 09:07 AM

I was kind of thinking along those same lines. Maybe some sort of holder for something. there is no markings around it of any kind.

Dangerous Dave 02-26-2008 09:45 AM

maybe a bracket to add a tow pilon for water ski racing? Is it on both sides?

Airpacker 02-26-2008 01:55 PM

place to clamp a kicker outboard for a dinghy while not in use?

spazboz 02-26-2008 02:09 PM

Wonder why they're staggered and angle-cut in the bilge area?

glassdave 02-26-2008 03:41 PM

I'm sure the stagger and angle have something to do with it. Dosent seem like any secure way to clamp a kicker outboard to it with any real safety.

Ryan Beckley 02-26-2008 03:57 PM

Was it for cable routing? Did the throttle / shift cables run through there?

Perlmudder 02-26-2008 03:59 PM

maybe a mount for a hoist to remove an engine?

no, it is mounted roughly on center with the port engine but i dont believe it has anything to do with that motor. heres a little better view of where its located. its about 2 inches off the floor of the cockpit under the rear seat, comes out in the bilge on top of the ledge where the tanks at. Heres a pic out of the boat.

Top Banana 02-26-2008 07:47 PM

It protected the gun barrels of both short and long rifles or autos.

glassdave 02-27-2008 09:19 AM

Cant be for guns, where its mounted there would be no way to pull 'em quickly. This is really puzzling, 400+ veiws and notta

Velocity Vector 02-27-2008 09:40 AM

This is so simple, They are there to keep the wiggeling pins from falling out of the wobbeling holes.

wstultz 02-27-2008 10:16 AM

Chris Sunkin 02-27-2008 10:19 AM

Damn, it was hard enough to get out, you didn't get it stuck again, did ya'?
:)

glassdave 02-27-2008 11:28 AM

Its all in the name of science, an since its related to your boat i figured i could bill you for the time spent "researching" this on OSO :D

BLAZE 02-27-2008 01:08 PM

phragle 02-27-2008 03:19 PM

I have the answer!!!! the thing actually serves no real purpose.. it was designed and installed simply to make people like Dave ask questions!!!!!

glassdave 02-27-2008 04:03 PM

now that makes sense . . . . . . (to me anyway):D

hows the ice boating Rob? (you know it is still a sail boat dont ya)

Velocity Vector 02-27-2008 04:23 PM

Uh huh. Nice.

Edward R. Cozzi 02-27-2008 09:22 PM

How about a place to run fuel lines from a portable tank under the rear seat?

24degrees 02-28-2008 04:42 AM

Is the engine room sealed otherwise?.......could just be drains so if the engine room bilge filled up it would move forward?
