I graduated high school in Miami in 81..
You would have lived thru a lot more than just than that..
The Liberty City Riots
The Mariel Boatlift and subsequent Wild West that followed the importing of 100,000 released felons from Cubas jails to miami streets
The Overtown Riots
The collapse of the housing and job market after the drug days were over.
Yes some was fun and exciting but there was plenty bad as well.
Ever notice that when you see episodes of Miami Vice you could throw a rock and not hit anyone on the beach or in downtown.. Thats how deserted and run down it really was.
Had it not been for the turnaround and rebranding of Miami Beach into the trendy "South Beach" and the wave of international money that followed that rebranding of the beach the following decades might have been very different.
Make no mistake I would not trade growing up there for anything and personally hate how rich and shameless Miami has become but it had some rough azz times in the 80s.

The money was flowing back then and plenty of people with small clothing boutiques and jewelry stores ,car lots etc made all cash sales and no one called the cops or hated the people in the drug biz.The people counted cash and asked no questions, welcome to Miami.
