Codecasa Boats
3 Attachment(s)
The Buzzi thread is changing it`s subject matter,so I thought we better have another thread.
First, in answer to your comments `shifter` re the Lambo SV,no pics of it.I was hunting OP1`s. I did not get pics of Rainbow Bears burning as I had to return home on the Monday of the race. Interesting info re the bearcat. The only record I have of a 44ft Baudouin engined boat in 93 was Cogeme,a CUV ex-Paul & Shark. No record in 94 of a Baudouin boat. You mention at Malta 93 the Birkett hull was painted red.Was it the white Codecsa of 1990,because Polli had a red CUV in 1991.Was the black SDA of 1992 the white SDA of 1990 with the cockpit styling modified.See attachments. So many questions,so many answers required. |
You right about the Baudouin boat I found a photo from 92 when it was #301 and the name was Deboa grande vini. I can see the cuv emblem on the cockpit. Strange I thought they reused the bearcat boat later.
The first composit boat Polli had was a cuv and it was heavy. After the wreck in Sardenia they changed the cockpit to the white pic from above. I did not know the boat changed to a cuv in 92 I just assumed it was the birket boat with another cockpit. In Malta the boat was red. I need to find my pics, they were the first through on the kilo and stood it up coming through the entrance to Valetta harbor off the swell. I need to resize the pics I just scanned. pat W |
Any more pics of the Dome Subaru?

It can catch you out quite easily.See pics.Both 44ft,2 x Baudouin,No 301.
Deroa is a Codecasa Birkett, which did the 91 Cowes race. Paul & Shark is a CUV Peters, which raced in 92.I have a reference to it being Aurantium design, but it went on to become Cogeme and is credited with Peters design,so another area to sort. Was the bearcat to become Deroa? Do not understand the `shifter` comment re Sardina wreck (which boat). Are we talking about the white SDA in post 1 pic or the stern shot without the cockpit shown (shifter pic in the Buzzi thread). What is that boat? Any comment re the black codecasa cat in post 1 pic. What do you mean by Dome Subaru `hallj`in your post 3. We await the next riddle. |

The pic above right is the new boat built in 1991 by Società Navale Aurantium with a collaboration of CUV on the same Birkett design of 45'. In 1991 Edoardo Polli had two similar boats one in red and one in black both powered with 4 Alloni-Motori Moderni. Both were called Bear 45' because so decided the owner Polli. They can named Bear 45' or more exactly; the first one(white then black) Codecasadue-Aurantium 45' and the second(the red one) Aurantium-CUV 45' to distinguish them among them. |

Here are more pics of the cats.
When the SDA wrecked in Sardenia it looked like the pics I have been posting of the white SDA. When they fixed it looked like the pics you have posted. Polli bought the Molinari with lambos and raced it at Viareggio as SDA when I was re-rigging the SDA with the new canopy. The black boat is confusing because it has the codacasadue sticker on it. I am still chaising my friend in Milan to see if he has any pics of the composit (I am not sure if Cuv buit it) |

As it confirms us "shifter" in the post #12, the white SDA of the photo above to the left and that third bottom to the left of the post #31 in the thread of Buzzi is the Codecasadue 45' in the first version of the 1990.
Then became the white of the rest of 1990 season in the third pic on post #1 of Flying Fish. Then became the black in 1991 season in the second pic on the same post #1. The others two pics on the post above are of the first Codecasasa for Polli that then became Deroà in 1991 for Cirilli,Lippi and Leonardo Polli, the latter nephew of Edoardo Polli. Of that same boat "shifter" has also posted the second pic on post #31 and the firsts two of post #32 on the thread Buzzi. |
Here the SDA Tencara '93 before and after burning at Ostend.

COOL IDEA , DO IT MARCO AND THE OTHER GUYS I THINK THAT ITS NICE THAT PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN PART OF THE PAST OF THIS SPORT WRITE THEIR EXPERIENCES.
I THINK MOST PEOPLE ARE NEGLECTING THESE EXPERIENCES AND BOATS. In another thread wonders if and when John Crouse the offshore journalist of journalists will publish its second work but to how much it doesn't even seem him he succeeds in finding a publisher. Unfortunately this sport is of scarce public interest and the sale of copies is reduced to few about ten or perhaps some hundred. Then it happens as with the book of Michael Aronow,King of the Thunderboat Row, that almost immediately sell out to the first edition the author (or his publisher) doesn't want to risk in a second and now the few copies that are made on the market available they have absurd quotations. Besides as all the books of sport the principal part must make the image that must be predominantly in full color and this is today still really expensive despite the technology of press has made giant footsteps with the advent of the computer. The street can be tried to privately publish, but the least one of copies to balance the expenses with the price of the book is around 1000 and if at least you are not sure to sell more than the half of it you have put again money. |
Codecasa dates
Thanks for the clarification Marco re the Polli boats.I keep finding the photo dates mixed up i.e. the black and red boats.
Trying to do too many boats and builders at once.Interesting about the reference to how the boats were credited. There are far more Italian boat versions than we ever had in the UK. |

Here are some more pics of the 44.
It has been good to get some of this sorted out. I will chase my friends some more to get more info on the other unknown boats. There are some good stories behind all of these boats. I am trying to piece together what we did year by year photo by photo. I have 20 years and 1000's of photos. I am not sure what I will do with it when I am done but more then likely we will add it to our website. pat W |
`Shifter` pics
Please be encouraged to scan your pics so they will be always
stored as needed.Fungi attack to slides pushed me into scanning them, and then `Little Nige` encouraged me to put them on the `Boatmad `site.I had already spent many years tapping out the race results as the records in mags etc were a bit of a shambles, and this led me into compiling builders lists to accompany them, and now photo lists to accompany the builders lists. But like most things, the more you know, the more you realize how little you know, and one is constantly updating as new info comes to hand. It`s virtually a full time job sometimes as you can get really locked into it.Black Tornado knows all about the problems researching ,scanning, downloading, correcting etc, etc,so it`s a toss up which one of us keels over first. If you look on the `Boatmad` site (multimedia),all those old 60 & 70`s films are from my collection,a lot of which I took on Super 8 and made into 20-30min films. The colour had kept quite well considering they are nearly 40yrs old. So we look forward to some interesting info in the future. |
As a job, more than a job.
Last year I have spent three months to scan thousand of mine slides and for this I have consumed a scanner. |
Scanning
Scanners can be replaced my old researcher, but the eyes can`t.Still, keep at it BT,another 20yrs before strapping on those bottle glasses, hopefully.
|
Too late for me. I owe as soon as possible to permanently put the glasses and I am still prevaricating.....

To be of help to put a little bit of order in the memoirs of shifter here the partecipations of Edoardo Polli to the Viareggio-Bastia-Viareggio from 1990 to 1993 from my slides;
Preface-the first Codecasa cat in April 1990,in front of one of the three yards of Codecasa in Viareggio. http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/9...4625yu8.th.jpg for the race of the 1990 Edoardo Polli brought two boats, the new cat 4 engines Codecasa and the cat ex Martini Bianco of Renato Molinari. Still confused about 301. why was the boat stickered CUV. Did they do the mods?
pat W |
Here are some from Sardenia 1990. This was saturday afternoon post testing. This was a result of a high speed turn to the right 140 plus. It hooked flew in the air backwards and rear stuffed. I watched it happen then raced down the mountain to the harbor, Stole Notreals small 7 ft rib with my brother, Caseraghi, and one of the rainbow mechanics. A guy with a big video camera was trying to get in t with us so I lit the motor slammed it in drive almost chucking everyone out the rib ditching the video guy and sped across the harbor to polli's yacht that had a 25 ft tender. I bounced off the two yachts and unloaded them onto the tender asking them to pick me up at the mouth of the port after I dumped the rib. They drove right by me and went out to help. Caseragi asked my brother" who was that lunatic." my brother never answered. Lino had a cut on his chin and that was the only injury.
That was a long day. Aloni asked if we could get the boat running for the race the next day....... pat W |

Vbv 90
Just been looking at DVD of VBV 90,and it shows a white SDA being towed into the docks half submerged having crashed in practice according to Polli.Polli then says he will use the old Molinari cat of 89 for the race because his 3rd boat a 4 engine craft rebuilt from Porto Cervo is basically too new to race. This 3rd boat must have pitched up as well, because Polli says he had yet to decide which one to race even though he favoured the Molinari.
From all that ,is he talking about the Bearcat 45 to later be Deroa (as crashed in practice),and the 3rd boat, the white SDA codecasa later to be painted black for 91 season. Also in Malta 93 the red CUV/Aurantium was raced. The world waits for BT/Shifter to solve the case. |

Vbv 90
In my post #26 I speak of "new cat 4 engines" boat but I referred me to the cat that was damaged at Porto Cervo and restored with a new cockpit in time for the VBV. The other one was the cat of Molinari with which Polli then raced. I don't have photo and I don't remember of a SDA half submerged at Viareggio.
Flying can you take the frame from the video and post here? The red cat at Malta in 93 was the other aircraft carrier of Polli that was ready in 1991 (sister boat of that white) and that was stickered CUV. http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/716/36aae2.th.jpg VBV90 http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/2707/109tp8.th.jpg |

pat W In 1990 CUV was partnership of Codecasadue in the construction of the first 4 engines 45' that Polli he used as test boat and that then became the 301 Deroà in 1991. |
VBV 90 take 2
Studied the DVD further and the crash in testing he referred to was Sardinia even though the interview was in Viareggio.
So what I thought was his 3rd boat was in fact his 2nd boat at Viareggio, the white Codecasa, repaired. This flippin Bearcat 45ft grey in colour. Is this Polli test boat never raced, until it became Deroa? I seem to be entering all sorts of tunnels never knowing if I`m comming out of the one I went into. |
SDA-Deroà
As has already said shifter the Bearcat 45' was abandoned and in the 90 Polli drove the other 45' white of Birkett and the Molinari.

OK.Another throw of the dice.Pic 1,2 & 3 of same boat,which was then painted white as Pic 4 & 5,then became Pic 6.
Pic 1,2 & 3 never raced? The abandoned Bearcat 45 was a different boat to above? It`s your post 15 BT which is throwing me. Post a pic of the boat before it became Deroa. Enjoying your popcorn `Little Nige`,this has got more repeats than `The Sound of Music`. |
I can't imagine that pics 1, 2, 3 show the same hull as pics 4, 5, 6. Why should they remove one step?
