I have to admit, the though came to mind of snapping it up, and parting it out also, but didnt have the room to do it, or the cash on hand to get it. My first thought was to strangle the guy, but at least he just took the power and drives and left the rest rigged........for now:angry-smiley-038: |
My guess, that boat will NEVER go back into the water. Off to the scrap heap it goes...
I really liked the boat. I thought long and hard about buying it, but was in the middle of my deal for the Panteras... |
Man, that really sucks. I posted down in the ME section as well.

Hmmm, I know a dude who's got a pair of blower motors that are just sitting around doing nothing... All he's got to do is put a piston in one of them... :D

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT I hope he got incurable carpul tunnel taking it apart.
|
Honestly, the more I look at this... the less sense it makes to me. He's never going to make a dime on the unrigged hull. And I'd be stunned if he has much luck selling the Arneson stuff. So basically, he paid $16k for a pair of used, stock 454s?

But he also got the staggered gil dry exhaust too! I bet the motors end up in some junk pile dream. the arnesons will probalbly be ebayed and the trailer is under something else by now. For the price he paid , stripping the boat was the last thing he should of done, the hull is almost worthless without the cool historic parts. He could of flipped that boat running for a lot more money than he will lose selling those parts. I should of bought that boat and ran it.

I was the first bidder on it, I just missed the end of the auction. Got to hate it when you miss those deals. |
Midnight express
Man I don't believe that. Why would you destroy history. That's like kicken 80 year old grandma in here real teeth and Knocking them out.Very very sad.I think he has the drives listed on here.O well no sense in dwelling on the actions of other people.

fukin shame! that boat was sick looking. what a dbag!
|
Damn. What a complete shame. Seriously, if I had seen the original add, it would have been in my driveway. 16k for a piece of history..... That boat would have been a blast, and with those Innovation motors and Arnesons, damn reliable. Too bad. You would think a member here would want to keep the history alive.

It's a boat... and like all boats they deteriorate. The smart thing to do was to go to break-up value. All components, including the hull are sold. Thanks for the comments. Looking at the $ any of you would have done what I did... and you know it. The luster of the whole history thing wore off for me about 10 years ago... it's just business. I find my 23 knt sport-fish a lot more enjoyable.

Whats it worth the way it is now.

Most of us here are not in this for business.
You could have posted it here 1st for sale for a few bucks more than you bought it for, then mention the breakup. That boat was the sum of its parts... Now its just a bunch of parts. I hope you made some good money. I'm sure it barely paid one months rent, unless you live on your Post. Oh yea, and take the ME off your signature. |
boat
Amen!!!! to that Stormrider.
|
It's simply a shame that there are people out there that do this. It's one thing if it's just another pleasure boat, but something that is very unique and with race history....... just a shame.

Stormrider, with over 7000 posts, maybe you should step away from the boards and start working to make some money to be able to buy these boats and do with them what you want... |
Well, i'm glad you are on this site, caring so much about what many consider valued history of this sport.
|
I wouldn't of stripped it unless the motors were blown and there were expensive problems to fix. You could of at least ran it a few times , but I guess the money was more important. , You could of flipped that boat in one piece, but again your boat, your call. I blame myself for not believing how cheap it would sell for and not following the auction closer. You raced my old cig, that was nothing but a hull with a hole in it when I found it, but I like the older boats and this one was one of a kind.

I think you've got a right to say "It's my boat f*ck off" (throwing stewardship out the window), but your personal attack on Stormrider is uncalled for. It's outside the context of this discussion. He expressed exterme dissapointment and the apparent destruction of a classic artifact that he had a great deal of appreciation for. That's all. The guy has a passion for offshore that enhances people's experinece and enjoyment of this sort of outlet (OSO). Without people like Stormrider, it's unlikely that the market or opportunity would exist for you to do the things you've done in this industry. It's like Milton Bradley telling fans to f*ck-off when they get on him for playing badly... |

MidOcean, to answer your question, I'd guess we pobably know some of the same people but we don't know each other.
