Just received sad news from a friend in Florida that Billy Elswick Died today - His Long Shot Racing was famous back in the day - I remember him well in 1978 in Argentina where the transom of his boat gave way - and he and his crew were picked up by a Freighter - what luck -
Rest in Peace Bill !

I want to remember Elswick in the year when it got great result-the 1980.
First in the Bacardi Trophy -the Benihana Grand Prix -the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes and the Le Club International.
Thanks to the triumphs to the Bacardi and the CTC together with the third place to the Needles Trophy he take the prestigious Harmsworth Trophy.
Here under he is shown after the victorious finish in the Bacardi Trophy on his Cigarette 39' Long Shot and during the CTC with the Scarab 38' Paul's Clauser Satisfaction.
Bill now drives up there with Joe Halpern, Betty Cook ,Joe Ippolito, Francesco Cosentino...

Don Wright was my best man at my wedding in 1963.
He died racing in Panama City in 1988. He was The Spirit of Miss Liberty', throttleman. Thomas Brandt was pilot and owner who was also killed. Still have a lot of good memories.
Anyone else out there know of them?
