I have the engine out of it now, have the K plane and trim motors working good. I found out what knocked the ends off the plugs in #7 and #8. A piece of the #7 intake valve cracked off and went into #8 and #5. Nothing that a new set of pistons and a valve job wont cure.

All of the vinyl cleaned up surprisingly good. Magic Eraser works better than anything I have ever seen. Try it.

Drained about a gallon of water out of the fuel tank and re-sealed the sending unit.

Bearing in the rear of the tail housing was bad. Replaced that too.

In the interest of saving a few bucks in the short run, I'm switching all the Mercruiser stuff over to a running 454 that I have in the garage. I'll rebuild the 420 later. The engine I'm putting in is no slouch, so it should be fun.

I hope to have it back on the water in a few weeks.

ahh...look at those clean water passages in the heads...how old?? ........no rust on the oil pan, etc...........you freshwater guys got it so good...
