Cougar Raceboats

I was curious if any of you know why Cougar decided not to keep building raceboats. They were so successful in the 80's, but I never heard why they stopped. I was also wondering the
same thing about their pleasure V-bottoms such as the 38, 41,
and 46. I would appreciate any information that the rest of you might know.

Cougar as in the 80's and 90's is gone. Clive got rid of Hamble Point and sold the business to a pub owner and entrepaneur in the mid 90's. I was involved in the 45' Viper project in the late 90's, that turned out to be a complete and utter fiasco.

Cougars were great boats. I've owned:

Benihana/ Satisfaction/ Al Duro (38' wood)

Beep Beep/ Michelob Light/ Rum Runner/ Aj Jr and Mr. Roberts (38' Alum)

Dirty Laundry/ Stray Cat/ Rivited (37' Aluminum)

David Mariott's (30' FRP)

38' Molds and a doz of those little cougar cubs...

Clive, Steve and Lah Curtis.... lots of good times back in the day.

I bought it from Condor/ Felix. It sat behind my warehouse in Tallahassee for 5 years before we took it apart and disposed of her. It was a mess when I got it.. 70% rotted... but the trailer was great. We left yellow pieces all the way from Hialeah to Tallahassee. You could look back and see parts of the boat blowing off... I can't remember how many times we stopped to pick stuff up... it seemed like it would never end.

Wideawake,
Bringing back an old thread... Able to comment any on the 45' Cougar Viper (turned out to be a complete and utter fiasco.)
