Sorry but no. The Solas is for my Nova19 and it's not ready yet. If it didn't work on the Nova then it was going on the Monza but there is a good chance that I wont have it anymore by then.

All gone. Hope you enjoy it, new owner. Whoever you may be.

BOAT Update - I now have that Monza up in Minnesota. Prior motor's block was blown so I had a local NASCAR/NHRA/boat engine shop salvage the best of the good parts that were in it and build me a new one. It is a BBC 454 stretched to the low 460's. On the dyno the torque curve is amazing and the hp band runs a true 450hp to ~ 5250 rpm. I've had it out a couple time so far, but we just last week came out of being a flooded/ "no wake" county so I have yet to really open it up. I'm told I probably need a 26p LR that will fit on the VP, I originally took it out on a 21p and it hit 60 on GPS with lots of room to spare, got a 24p on their now that I'll be testing this weekend.
Hope to have it back in the form you guys remember! |
I had 468ci/470hp (built by Jim Benny) in that boat turning a 28p custom Mach prop at 76 mph - with a Loran. First I had them make a 26 for me, but that spun to 5,800, so I had it remade to 28. Still spun to 5,600 I think, maybe only 5,400 - can't remember which. (The Volvo drive ratio is 1.8:1 I think?) It was sold with the boat - who knows what happened to it. I also had to drill the drive output shaft for a cotter pin - nylon lock nut would not hold, and that's all it had when I got it.

Hull likes lots of trim as it rides on that 4" pad in the 70's - won't chine walk with a round eared prop, but does get nice and loose.
One pic shows motor first going in - the old alumn manifolds didn't last long, and were replaced with stainless marine's with 4" pipes. |

Monza Update - the boat now has a 550hp engine (true & dyno'd) with 4" pipes out the back, it sounds like a beast. It has all new vinyl and it is getting a VP 290 DP outdrive to replace the 270 (the new engine kept busting the outdrive). I think "Tonka Toy" (new name for the boat based it living on Lake Minnetonka) is about to be almost as bad ass as "Salty Dog"! (dang, I wish I could have found a VP splined 29P counter rotating prop for this, I may have kept the 270 :-) ).
What is the tallest pitch duoprop that will fit on the 290 outdrive, I want to get one of these but I don't understand VP's duoprop sizing. |
