The most frequent i hear is "that hull is way ahead of it's time". Anyone know why that is? Are there be other hulls similar and if so which? The monza is often referenced with donzi, is there any other reason besides general shape & purpose? Lastly, any idea where i can find the hull id?

Thanks!

Is this the one you are talking about?

I've had 2 of them. One with a 360 Chrysler and another with a 454 BBC.

19 Monza

Built in Dania Fl by Fino Monza Boat Co. Owned by some real estate developers including Bobbie Routbourt (sp) the factory on tiger tail road is now a lake near bass pro. The company went out of business with the oil embargo.
Bobbie Routbourt was the ‘72 or 73 offshore champion but his race boat was built at Magnum Marine.

To my understanding, you're correct as to the fact that '72 World Champion Bobby Rautbord bought Monza Marine at the beginning of 1973 from original founder Kenny Elkind. I believe he and his older brother Clayton put it all on ice though. He did advertise Fino-Monza on his red 36' Cigarette race boat, (not a Magnum Marine), at the time, but only guys like Butch Stokes, who originally worked for Elkind at Monza has all the history. Butch went to work for Bobby Rautbord at Fino Marine when Bobby started building the Fino 30, but after the first 7 hulls, Bobby moved the production over to his and his brother Clayton's Magnum Marine plant. Not sure who eventually ended up with their mold of the Monza Marine 19, but somebody will chip in, hopefully Butch.

This is my dads old 1972 26 Monza. Who designed the 26. Looks like they used the same windshields on the 19.

You happen to to know who designed the 26?

larslindroth 07-30-2020 12:56 AM

I'm pretty certain Butch Stokes explained the history, on the Donzi.net forum many years ago, but my memory fails me. I miss Butch's input in situations like this very much. Such a striking looking design. Thanks for sharing the photos Tommy!
