Flight Marine/Stalker cat

Anyone have any pics of the Flight Marine/Stalker cats? Any old magazine ads? I thought someone on here had an old ad for Flight Marine/Stalker. I think it was the boat the two men were killed in. Any old race photos or whatever?

fastdonzi 10-30-2010 12:09 PM

Bob Sheer (wideawake on here) Raced one called sheer terror. There was an incedent where two guys where killed but it wasn't a race thing, they where going up the intercoastal at night and ran up the back of a flybridge cruiser. it was a bad freakin thing....

Here are a few of Bobs cat.

Gladhe8er 10-31-2010 09:55 AM

Did Sheer Terror switch to Arnesons at one pont? I seem to remember it having a pair.

SpeedDoc 10-31-2010 10:53 AM

Yep....Also look in the 3rd pic, you can see the compass has come out and is flying along with the boat.

Bob said once he switched to Arnesons drives Sheer Terror came alive & won the National Championship... :drink: When the cat was later sold the new owner put Merc's back on her & it never ran well again.:eek::eek:

Stalker

We had one at Popeye's that was a race and Al's personal pleasure boat with a wing across the transom. We tried setting a U.I.M. kilo record with it once and I tested it on Lake X at 132 MPH. Boy did that lake get short when running at those speeds.

Interesting story for sure. Would love to see some pics when it's done.

No doubt, interesting story and a great tribute to your father, very much looking forward to the finished result.

This would also make an interesting documentry... If you have pics and are willing to spend some time posting as you go, I'm sure the thread would have a very strong following.

Kenny, that is the boat I told you about in this thread back in '08:

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/w...alker-cat.html

Glad you were able to track it down! Used to run in front of my parents house when I was probably 15-16 years old, and I would sprint outside to watch it go by. Then it wound up at the local broker and I wanted it sooo bad. This is going back almost 20yrs.

MidOcean 12-09-2010 01:59 PM

Kenny,

Both were great guys.

Back in the day when we were kids, Phil, Mike Hirsch, Steve Weintraub, Jeff Sofer and I used to hang out. We were all just out of High School...except for Jeff who was 14 or 15 at the time.

Glad to see you are keeping the "Flight" passion alive.

Best Wishes

T.

This "Top Cat boat" was the first boat I raced. We picked it up in 1988 and began racing it in 1989. It was repainted and sponsored by Hy-Tech Marine out of Little Washington, NC. I'll try and dig up photos of the boat after it was repainted. We also widened the cockpit, put in Skater seats and re-rigged the boat completely. We kept the Arneson drives but replaced the engines from small blocks to big blocks.

Kenny,
It ran from what I can remember in the high 90's to low 100's but we never really got to dial it in properly. The CG did change somewhat with the wider cockpit and bigger engines. I believe the HP was 550+, nothing crazy at all. I've heard the boat is in South Florida but I really have no idea. It was repainted white, with a splash color or blue, teal and pink done the sponsons and deck... Yes, that was the colors... It was the late 80's you know....

Ben

The Night Stalker boats looks exactly like ours, I wonder if our boat was the Night Stalker boat repainted? I was always wondering what the history of our boat was...

Its possible that Night Stalker and Top Cat were the same boat i wasn't able to locate Night Stalker, Night Stalker was Kevlar
was Top Cat?

Yes, it sure was Kevlar... If you'll notice, the decks/cockpits of each Flight Marine were a little different from each other and Night Stalker and our Top Cat look the very same. I bet you're right that they are the same boat. Did Night Stalker had small blocks in it originally? The Arneson's look the very same too.
