Wow I did not know they made a 36....that must be the gen 2

salty dog 11-25-2013 10:25 PM

Heres a question for all you old schoolers which was the better boat the 36 Mirage or the 37 Midnight Express ? Both great old well built boats who had the edge while night fishing in the gulfstream off Miami in those dangerous swells?

salty dog 12-16-2013 07:04 AM

whats the beam on a 36?

turbo rr 12-16-2013 08:56 PM

The beam is either 9'2 or 9'6. Cant remember which one for sure. The hull is similar to the widebody 36 cig hull. Not the same though.

I've got that same info on the 9M in my boating magazine as in your post. I thought the 36 footers made in the late 80's were made in Miami,no?

When talking about south east Florida boat builders back in the day, anything is possible.

salty dog 12-17-2013 06:15 PM

Yes they were built in Miami, solid boats do not think they built many 36 footers.

turbo rr 12-21-2013 08:26 AM

Opa Locka...Miami just about the same place. The builders son is on the boards every now and then

salty dog 12-21-2013 09:06 AM

How many 36ft were built ? some dude in Hialeah did an outboard conversion with trip 250 yammies I think this boat is really about big inboard power, where is pops 57?

If you want to see Armed & Dangerous potential & speed get the Freeze Frame video from Key West 1994 world championships race #3. I was @ that race, that Mirage was impressive.

lucky strike 01-23-2014 04:33 PM

Fast boat....Dollars per cubic inch! How fast do you want to go?

Hello Brian

The late Jeff Galente and I purchased the "Gazapacho" Mirage and repainted it Blue and changed the name to "Outlaw", we raced it a few times. It was stolen from a marina in NJ and never recovered, It was last seen in a barn in CT. this was back in the late 70s.to early 80s
I can't post a photo of it as the Outlaw. I think that Mark (H2oboater) may have a photo of it as Outlaw. It was a great race boat and a fun boat to race.

thank you
jim

Before it was Gazapacho, when it was new it was Great Adventure. The boat was shipped out to California for the 1st race of the year in
A.P.B.A. It was so rough the boat stuffed and ripped the deck off of it. It was then sold to Joe Barrow and raced as Gazapacho. I throttled it in the club races for Joe as seen in the picture in Plymouth Mass. Great Adventure for the rest of that season was the blue Sutphen.

Steve,

Thank you. Correct
We purchased it from Joe, and then changed it to Outlaw M44
That was a long time ago.
Jim
