Mercruiser special restore

The Mercruiser special, originally driven by George Morales has finally made it to our shop. It will be restored to its original for the Cowes to Torque race

Here is a pic of it now and from its past glory

Ryan Beckley 06-10-2011 09:10 AM

That is not the boat. Mercruiser Special became Popeyes, as it was seen at the Kenner / New Orleans OSS race a couple of years ago. It belongs to a man near Ft Myers Florida. I believe the boat you have there was Tim Ciasulli's Maxon......

MissGeicoRacing 06-10-2011 09:22 AM

I guess the Miss Maxon will be redone as Mercruiser special

Ryan Beckley 06-10-2011 09:47 AM

LOL... both Classic big Aluminum Cougars! Wave Crushers!

MikeyFIN 06-10-2011 10:54 AM

Out of curiosity any pics or clips or Merc Special at CTC back in the day running ?
Although this will be a replica at least it's something and this one doesn't have any dents on the deck from mrs Morales stiletto heels...

PS the back in the day pic just made as my 50" wallpaper...looking quite good ;)

You are right again Ryan, that boat is what you say it is,It was for sale at Randy Hartmans when I wanted to buy it,the wanted 80,000 grand for it! that when I was on my cougar kick....Bob

MikeyFIN 06-11-2011 03:45 AM

So apparently I took a pic of Miss Merc Special stripped 1993 in Pompano Beach Marina ?

Ryan Beckley 06-11-2011 09:45 AM

It was never stripped. Copeland bought it from Morales and it has been Popeyes ever since 1985 I believe. I know Jay Castaline had it for awhile. Cope land bought it to run in the Miami New York race and Morales beat him with his new cat.

chewiekw 06-11-2011 04:32 PM

why did Ben order a deep v Cougar, when he was making Apaches? I know he ordered a 48 foot catamaran from Cougar that was Erics Reality/Gentry

gofish 7070 06-13-2011 12:48 PM

I don't think that is correct. The Ciasulli/ Maxon boat was built a few years before Ben went away.

MikeyFIN 07-14-2011 03:11 AM

So which of them was white and stripped at Pompano in December 1993 ? Anyone?

Thats what Peter C (From Cougar) Said last time this subject came up. I never knew Ben wanted one either :)

CougarM 07-14-2011 07:30 AM

This boat is not the Mercruiser Special, it was built for Ben Kramer, before ben had the boat rigged he sold it to Tim Ciasulli and it then raced as Maxon

Why did Ben order a Cougar when he was building 47 foot Apaches?

Ryan Beckley 07-14-2011 06:25 PM

He ordered two Cougars, Eric's Reality was his as well!

For 85,000 buy it now it is a really cool piece of history for the right person and a lot cheaper than restoring one!

DrGaryDC 07-14-2011 07:15 PM

Very cool, someone needs to grab a piece of history

The boat is presently owned by a friend of mine, who is looking to sell it. It has triple Keith Eikert motors and is on a trailer. It still has the "Popeyes" paint scheme. It would make a creat classic racer or poker runner. Contact me for phone #
