Thanks Christian,

I recall Ian telling me that the first day your family arrived in Florida, you went down to the beach and saw the Pantera.
He said that if this is how Americans do their boating,
you guys would be in for quite a holiday..........

Give my best to your family as well as John, Trevor and Stuart.

Tony gave me my first Apache ride! That was awfully nice of him.
Won't be forgetting that anytime soon.

Tell your Dad to get cracking on the Mag.

Jeff

Cheers Jeff – things like the Panetra left an indelible mark on my mind, shortly followed by a trip to 188th street and a guided tour around the Magnum factory before the same around the Cigarette factory - pretty cool for a 5 year old!

Ian’s Magnum is really coming on now; I’ll get him to put some pics up soon. Do you or any Magnum fans know anything about this ‘Magnum Racing Team’ decal………….Ian was given it in the late 60’s/early 70’s and had it painted on the side of his 28’??? Sorry about the poor resolution but its the best I can do tonight.

All the best…………

Thanks Christian, it`s a good start.

The decal which Christian has put up is from a photograph of my old 28` Don`s last inboard no 4. Whilst I was rebuilding the boat for the second time in it`s now regrettable transformation from a racing flatdeck to a lookalike Sedan through my contacts with the Magnum Factory and various race teams at that time I was given this Decal. The picture was taken in 1973/4 at long range and hence why it is so poor but shows the outline of a hull with a two man crew. The flag was at the stern but flying forward with Magnum Marine along it. On the side of the hull along the length was Racing Team. The driver was upfront hanging on to the wheel with his legs in the air in front of him and the propshaft with the prop turning round was coming out of his backside. Has anyone ever seen this before or knows any more about it. I would love to reproduce it again and put it on my 1971 27 Sport project Does anyone have a better picture or do I need to give it to a local artist to see if he could re draw it?
KALAAZAR

Unique Decal

I have never seen one...but let's see who can remember what it looked liked. Brownie or some one who was around then might remember what it looked liked. I will check Magnum when I see them in Nov. Bud

The Pegasus was here on Lake St Clair around 1980 at a marina by my house. It disappeared one winters night, never to be seen again.:eek::eek:

It was stored at a marina on the Salt River. I heard it was cut up and buried in a field not to far from Lake St Clair. :party-smiley-004:

Hi Brownie, thanks for chipping in. The decal was given to me in the late 60`s early `70. I will have it re-drafted so we can all get a better view.

That was at Bobby Moore's [Mr Race Rock] Shipping Channel restaurant on Lake St Clair in Chestertucky TWP. :party-smiley-004: Just like 188th street it's been torn down and condos are there now.:eek::eek:

Thanks. I love hearing about the history up here. I vaguely remember the Race Rock on Gratiot. It would be great to see some pics and hear some stories over the winter.

Ratman,

Thanks for posting these pics. Do you know anything about the striped starfire, I'm pretty sure it is my boat.

Thanks - Marshall

That is the same Mag, it was running Volvo drives & 302 smallblock Chevy's. Russ Zablocki ordered it that way to run the smaller APBA P class back in 1976.

Great thread guy's I live in St Clair Shores, MI. I had no idea that Race Rock was a bar on the water or that we had so many race boats there. Cool pictures and again great information about our area!

Bobby Moore was the owner of the Shipping Channel restaurant, he sold it then started the Race Rock on Grossbeeck & 15 mile rd. Then the one in Orlando Florida.

Didn't the old Shipping channel resturant have several names? Like Brownies on the bay and Buccunneer's etc..? If so J the Sunsation rally used to stop there until it was torn down for the condos. Maybe you will remember that?

It was last named Lago's before the condos.
