Are you sure you don't add the 1802 to the 3450 to get a total of 5252? If you pull the 1802 out of the 3450 that means you have a 26 foot boat that ways 1648 lbs? I don't think so....unless it's aluminum.

Take a second look at the specs for all those boats in the registry...they all start out with a dry hull weight then add each of the several power options. Since the 260 was only offered with twin 260's... that's the only option listed. Look at the 39' Stinger...shows a hull weight of 6200 lbs...then gives the weights of the different power options to add. Think about it...a Stinger 390 that weighs 3460 lbs with no power? Make sense?

If a 26ft Stinger with twin 260's weighed only 3450 lbs it would run 90 MPH and you could tow it with a Isuzu 4 cyl pick up!!:evilb:

Powerquest_Baby!! 06-13-2012 12:28 AM

I agree with sprink. I know my boat (same length as yours) with twin small blocks weighed in 5400 lbs. Wellcraft never posted the weight with one big block but I would assume you deduct about 1000 lbs--same would go for you since your running one big block too.

Sprink, I agree with you, I don't know why I thought the 3450 was a total weight, (senior moment). So which prop would you recommend I use, 21, 23 or 25P. I'd like to see a decent MPH. Also do I need to install a thermostat? I do not have an enclosed water system just the pickup on the bottom of the hull.

Gator...21" and for sure use a thermostat...even in our warm water it will never reach operating temp and you will loose power.

InstaGator 06-13-2012 04:28 PM

Sprink the new motor came with a restrictor plate in it instead of a thermostat. Is one better than the other or do the both act as a back pressure device? Should the thermostat be a 160* thermostat? I really appreciate letting me pick your brain. I don't want to be doing this again any time soon, I'd much rather enjoy my boat...

sprink58 06-13-2012 06:01 PM

I think it is supposed to be a 140*.

InstaGator 06-13-2012 06:51 PM

Sprink do you know anyone with a 454 Gen V or VI oil pan? I need one for this new motor.

I'll check around...Bill Flint in Ft. Lauderdale has a bunch of stuff moving through all the time. I'll see what he has and let you know. Check craigslist down here...if you sniff something out I'll try to take a look at it for you.

Here's my almost finished motor. What do you think? I have to get the old block out of the boat in order to see if my pan will work or not. The weather here has sucked for the last week. Rain and storms every evening when I can get my buddies crane after work.

Almost forgot got my teak swim platform brackets came back today from the powdercoat guys. I think the red kinda modernizes the 30 year old platform. What do you think?

Damn...you are serious!!!:evilb:

Which Holley Vacuum Secondary model is in the picture?

machloosy 06-15-2012 07:40 AM

Dayum Gator!!! Looks seriously nice. That stinger is going to be on a whole different level and seriously updated. Should be a really hot package.

InstaGator 06-16-2012 06:52 AM

Sprink, I believe its a 750 double pumper. It was laying around the shop.

Gator...that one is a vacuum secondary...see that big diaphragm rig on the starboard side at the rear with a linkage that connects to the rear throttles? That indicates that it's a vacuum secondary model.

Here's a "Double Pumper"...

Gator...I have used these bastards on street cars and trucks, drag cars and boats. I have used most of the others. Other than EFI...this is the best fuel delivery piece of equipment I have ever used. It's like having 2: 2 barrel carburetors and you have 100% direct control as to when and how far the secondaries open.

Not to get on a rant...but I love these damn things because they give you so much control over the boat.

drozz30 06-16-2012 06:38 PM

Gator i got my 454 apart today. Will post pics later tonight or tomorrow. Looks as though it might have cracked a water jacket on cylinder 1 and stuck the piston. Lots of water in the oil and on top of the piston as well as tons of rust. New engine on the stand and should be in the boat tomorrow.

Doug

Gator,
Looks great, nice to see you saved her. Sorry to hear the engine went before Silver Glenn!
I just pulled the engine in my 230 going to do interior and engine compartment while waiting on machine work.
Keep up the good work!
Jody

Finally got some good weather to pull the dead motor out. My buddy brought over his work truck with a crane on it and 10 minutes later it was in the back of the truck headed to the shop.
Now I can get the engine compartment cleaned and painted. I'd like to get the new motor in next weekend. Still waiting on a few parts to show up.

Sprink thats definately not the carb I have. Could mine be an older model?

CC230 06-17-2012 12:48 PM

How's it going Gator??

Escobar,,,I'll start a thread, don't want to hijack Gator's space!

InstaGator 06-17-2012 07:14 PM

Doing good brother. Getting excited about getting my new motor done and installed.

I doubt it...what you have isn't a Double Pumper but a recent model Holley with vacuum secondaries.

InstaGator 06-18-2012 07:10 AM

Sprink now you have me wondering. Is there a number plate I can look for to find out what it is I'm using? I really want to know what all the components I'm using are.

Look on the front of the air horn...at the very front at the top. The Holley Part Number or as they call it "List Number" will be stamped in to the air horn.

This is a 750 Double Pumper. Look closely in the upper right hand corner of the air horn and you can see the number. This carburetor looks like the ones built in the '70's...they haven't changed much over the years.

Gator...go to this link https://www.holley.com/types/Street%...raditional.asp

This list all of the original traditional Holley's. From the pic of your engine assuming it is a 750 CFM, I think it may be this one

https://www.holley.com/0-9015-1.asp

and have a side hung float bowl assembly. Note: if the carburetor doesn't have "J" vent tube as opposed to straight ones then it's not a Marine version but is Automotive. Automotive versions have straight or angle cut vent tubes.

Here is a link to Holley's Marine Carb selection.

https://www.holley.com/types/Marine%...erformance.asp

I agree with you...it's always good to know exactly what you have.

Hope this helps.

InstaGator 06-18-2012 08:09 PM

Thanks for the info. I'll look at mine harder tomorrow. It definately is a marine app. with the "J" vent tubes. I'll post a pic without the flame arrestor on it tomorrow. Thanks again, Gator

Motors out and it's time to tighten up the engine compartment. It's not that bad but while I can access everywhere I'm going to clean and paint it. Also new blower hoses, bilge pump and hose will be added...

machloosy 06-21-2012 04:06 PM

Keep at it man. It looks super sharp, and only is going to look better

InstaGator 06-21-2012 04:43 PM

Machloosy, Thanks for words of encouragement, I'm trying to get her back to her glory days condition. Can't seem to catch a break and get time to enjoy her. Maybe after the new motor goes in...

sprink58 06-21-2012 07:46 PM

Nothing like a nice clean bilge to work in.

machloosy 06-22-2012 08:11 AM

Gator I'm with you. I've been chasing problem after problem in my 235 w/bbc. Finally about given up and sending it too a buddies shop to see if he can test some things better than I can. Whole ignition system is basically new and still won't fire. PO gave me some major BS when I bought it, and I took it hook, line, and sinker. Never buy a boat that hasn't been de-winterized and run.

Finally have the motor complete and buttoned up. I'll install the circulating pump, exhaust manifolds and oil cooler on Monday. We're going to try and start it up in the shop during the week. Can't wait to get it in the boat. I also have the engine compartment all painted except for where we'll have to stand to install the motor. I hope thats the light at the end of the tunnel I see ... Today is my birthday and I fear no beer, I hear them calling me out...

machloosy 07-02-2012 08:33 AM

Looks great man. Keep at it and she'll be up in no time!. I had a frustrating maiden voyage Saturday with mine so she's back in the yard with the interior torn apart so I can reach the engine.

Happy late birthday by the way!! 26 right? :evilb:

CC230 07-02-2012 11:12 AM

Gator, Happy Birthday, mine was the 25th. Hope it rumbles this week!

InstaGator 07-02-2012 07:33 PM

Thank you for the B-Day wishes. Today I managed to get the rest of the pulleys, the water pump, remote oil adapter are all on. I can't find the exhaust gaskets anywhere or he exhaust would be on too.

ESCOBAR 07-03-2012 06:43 PM

I hope you had a nice Birthday Gator.
