1979 30foot scarab

do you guys think this would make a good project, or better to find one that is more complete. i guess im asking if it worth it or not? theres no drivers or transome plates....
Fresh water boat , 30 ft offshore cuddy weekender, very nice condition, plan was for pod and outboards . I removed big heavy 454's , this boat looks and runs fast
,safe and slices through rough water. White hull redish bimini, all wiring, gauge, steering, hydrolic trim tabs (wolverine)captain and mate seats interior is nice and clean.
will trade for what have you . pics available.

I'd guess that boat in very good turn key condition, on a nice trailer, with a pair of 454's and TRS drives, to be worth about 15k.

theres one by me for 10 with big blocks and alot of aftermarket guess it would be worth it if its super cheap and you can work on it alittle as you go if you dont have any outboards or any othe parts laying round not worth it... how much they askin

Those older scarabs handle water real well but CHECK THE TRANSOM! It's what will get you. And hot small blocks are the way to go in the 30ft'r.

they are asking 2900.00

Always liked those. Thought they were a great way to get into a mid size, classic offshore boat economically.
When I was up north i used to see them fir sale all the time. Mostly orig, w/big blocks and TRS's and in the mid teens.

it will cost 10k for used stuff to build it. 25 to 40 for new. not counting time. you better want THIS boat for the long term. in some ways a boat like this is overpriced at free. the TRS's are gone because he sold them off. he took the-i like the way he called them heavy-454's out because he wants them for another boat. and anything but TRS will require transom replacement, and motor relocation. you want an outboard boat, find one. if you already have the motors, i would still find an outboard boat that died or had motors pulled. for some reason, a bad interior will devalue a boat more than bad or no power. and sometimes, sepecially with an old or stripped boat, the int still looks good, but it is on it's last legs. i would offer $1000. it will be $1000 more than his next highest offer.

With rare exception this is dead on. 3k is simply too much. A 32 hustle 11yrs newer by me when for $600 in the same condition, and I probably wouldn't have paid that. Don't pay ANYTHING unless you want this boat for 3-5yrs minimum.
