yes my boat had 292 inlines in it.. which uses same bellhousing/starter as sbc or bbc.. the inlines actually used a front motor mount by the balancer but the hull has the stringers spaced for v,8 in other words they didnt change the boat lay out for the inlines

i cant think of the measurement off top of my head been to busy to remeber..but its spread the same as v/8 boats.. mine and sprinks have the same measurement .. im sure he will chime in on that ..

jason y 04-14-2012 11:24 PM

lil eye candy got the intake bolts and bolted it on and timing chain bolted on one engine still have to get the oil pump and pan on so i can spray it all up nice and pretty... http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...a/DSC02880.jpg

Chiming In...32 1/2" from memory.

dereknkathy 04-15-2012 09:28 AM

i remember both of you saying 32 1/2. i was wondering cuz mine is at 31 inches.

FIXX 04-15-2012 10:40 PM

reason for asking is and im not trying to kill your buzz here but almost every side by side BB application is 34 1/2''unless your staggared..@ 34 1/2'' theirs abour 1/2'' of room between the exhaust manifolds.. you may want to measure your crankshaft center line to the outside of your exhaust manifold to be sure the big blocks are going to fit next to each other in the 255 liberator..

another buzz killer,,you need to install lifter valley baffels under the intakes to keep the oil from baking the bottom of the intakes and killing the cool fuel charge..

jason y 04-15-2012 10:50 PM

they fit ive already measure them before i jumped in to all this.. im not to worried about the baffles ive run many a engine just this way .. thanks for the tip though

Old Bird

Looks good any updates? The reason i ask is I am about to go through the same thing on my Scarab II. Twin 454s/Bravos where there was 350s/TRS...:lolhit:

http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...a/DSC03134.jpg

looks like enough room to me...lol set the engines in for mock up of all the wiring and exhuast etc...
routed all the wiring tonight besides the engine harness going to drill the thru hulls tomorrow night..

I need some 6 inch risers to get the angle needed.. everything is fiting just fine.. oil filter will clear starter clears
still looking for some more good used parts though... tryin to work on this thing every night as its hot here in ky and living by the lake makes it that much worse seeing all the boats out...

debating on paintin the flame arrestor tops black.. engines look ****ty in pic due to exhuast manifolds not being cleaned up and painted and engine compartment still dirty..

sprink58 05-29-2012 11:05 PM

I was with my friend in Ft. Lauderdale last week with his 38' Cigarette Top Gun. We were standing in the bilge and I remarked.."This isn't any larger than the bilge in my 255 Formula". I was right...that's a big 'ole bilge... boy.:evilb:

While you're playing around in there...make a mental note as to how much room we have forward of the engines. The 255's from the factory with 454's were TRS models with a Borg Warner transmission behind the engine. Jason...I really do think there's plenty of room for a 3KW gen set ahead of the engines in these boats.:evilb:

Take some good pics when you do the thru hulls. My Bravo TA's already have the exhaust blocked off and I sure would like to go out just below the rub rail with mine.

BTW...paint the Flame Arrestor tops "Mercruiser Electric Blue"

Great thread guys. It's nice that the two of you have the same project going on. Having just finished my twin 350 to single BBC 502 conversion it would have been nice to have someone with the same project going on. Now I will be replacing my blown (not in a good way) 502 in the next couple weeks. Have some friends that are going to help me out. I'm looking forward to following the rest of your progress. Keep up the good work and keep the pics flowing.

NICE!!

Take a pic or 2 from the inside so I can get a reference to the steering.

What tips are those?

InstaGator 06-12-2012 08:44 AM

Jason I took a D/A sander with 80 grit to the teak to clean off all the mold that was on it from sitting under a bunch of trees. You may not have to do that step, but you will need to sand it to let the new oil absorb into the wood. After that I gradually went to a finer grits up to 1200 to get the really smooth finish back. Be sure to wash it down after each sanding. If I were to strip it down again I would start applying teak oil after the 80 grit step, while the woods pores are still open. I waited to the end and have used almost a gallon of teak oil on it. I was amazed at how quickly the teak absorbed the oil. Oil it then let it dry to see where it needs more oil, then oil again. I'll post a couple of pics when it's done and ready to re-install. I'm going to leave it off until my new motor is in.

Gator...what oil is giving you the best results? Are you bleaching at all?

InstaGator 06-13-2012 07:49 AM

Sprink, I used Lowes brand teak oil "WATCO TEAK OIL". It came highly recommended by a sailboat owner I know. I didn't use any bleach and learned yesturday that I should have just pressure washed it to get all the mold off. Either way would have been quicker than sanding but my platform wood was in great shape but had heavy mold & alagee and rough to the touch on top... I'll post pics this evening of mine one more coat of oil and it'll be done...

machloosy 06-13-2012 08:44 AM

Yup I have to do this too. Have the teak oil waiting I'll get the brand tonight. Gator are you saying pressure wash it rather than sand? Mine doesn't have moss or anything, just rough.

Sorry Jason for the highjack

I used Cetol and it came out great. You will be very happy with the results.

Mac, I would pressure wash it then use a fine paper on a D/A sander to smooth out the roughness. Take a look at Formula's his looks great. Mine turned out a little darker. I sent the brackets of to be powder coated red to match the hull and add a more modern look to it.

machloosy 06-14-2012 07:41 AM

Sounds good Gator. I'll post up before and after pics this weekend hopefully!

Here you go Jason, Got my brackets back from the powdercoat guys today. I think the red brings the 30 year old platform into the 21st century. What do you think?

jason y 03-04-2013 09:30 PM

after taking over a business and ups and downs with wifes health gettin back up to working on boat im ready to kick some ass again on it had a bunch of info saved that i have seemed to have lost/or forgot... got my engine back out yesterday from trial fit need to buy plugs wires oil etc and test fire em on stand.. picked up a truck load of mercruiser alpha outdrives/gimbles etc... ive got plenty of spares now if one of these bigblocks decides to eat one...

jason y 03-04-2013 09:37 PM

sprink how about those side window glass? did you ever get any made up ? what did you find out about your window strip? mines kinda crappy and my windows are tinted id like to remove them and get them retinted and put em all back in

sprink58 03-04-2013 10:35 PM

I ended up with only 2 so I don't have any extras...sorry.

Glad to hear things are on the upswing for you. i'm finished with my engines...waiting on a pair of oil coolers and mine are going in. My brother launched his F3 Formula with the 454/Alpha. He ended up making a flywheel and having it balanced. His will run 60~65 but he's eaten two drives and one coupler. He's now gone back together with a Bravo coupler. He uses a 25" Mirage Plus prop and his drives have failed when he would put the wood to it getting on plane...not a hole shot but pushing it a little to get it to lay over. He dropped back to a 23" but he was spinning the motor too tight even at 50~55...but the drive stayed together. The first one he shredded the upper gears and grenaded that drive. The second one snapped the main shaft at the o ring running about 60. He caught a little air with the prop first day he had it out and that was all she wrote.

He's going to try a Gen II and see if that changes his luck....he modified his transom assembly and shift cable to make it work.

Hope you have better luck.

jason y 03-09-2013 08:11 PM

as of last week finally got second waterpump on pulley painted got oil and filters on engines plugs are in.. locking out dist and dropping them monday also got engines primed and starters on .. couple weeks ago i bought a truck load of mercruiser stuff 3 transom assemblies 3 outdrives the flywheels and couplers i needed one bellhousing and inner plate a old style trim pump etc....all for 400 bucks.. i also pulled a transom assembly off my brother boat that burnt down last year.. so i came up with 2 real nice transom assembly and 2 real nice 1.5 outdrives.. tore the transom assembies all way down there gettin everything new.. seals bearings bellows etc.. i hope to get this boat out in the water this year with no big setbacks like last year.. to be continued......

jason y 03-10-2013 08:40 PM
