I am just curious. Seems the boat has a lil history in my area, would be nice to talk to them :evilb:

We took that boat in trade for a 36 spectre he took all the power 1000s 4 speedmasters with boxes and installed them in the cat,I think it was around 2001 i had the hull surveyed and it checked out ok the only thing he noticed was the bottom sounded different on one side the previous owner had installed 1 new tank and maybe used different foam,so we decided to install a new tank on the other side the center stringer looked fine,we installed a new transom the stringers were fine we installed the bravos with rebuilt merc 500 installed hydromotive 26 4 blades, took the boat for the first sea trial and was amazed how well it ran had and old norskog speedo showed 86-88 mph probably gps speed 80-82 handled great was the nicest riding 10m i have been in

Great great news to hear. Thanks for posting :thankyouthankyou: Did you guys do any work to the bottom of the boat? It looks like it has had some work done to it at some point. I know one thing the G%D D^&M transom assemblies are about impossible to get off. They are stuck good. Was the interior down below all gutted back when you guys did the work? In the final stages of prep work. Stringers still all seem/sound good. We did notice the back bulkhead is a little soft, but nothing were going to even worry about. So then I think with out a doubt it should be a 100mph boat with are 7xx's in there. Thanks again

Well, got all the hardware off the back, in the process of sanding it all down, some things I do not like about it, but I guess that is what happens when a boat has been done for over 10 years. It has been to hot an humid to do any sanding or glassing, so I just held off. I did get 2 gallons of white IMRON, should be plenty to do from the rails down to the first strake. Will get some pics up soon.

This is going to be a good one. Do you have a timeframe set to finish? If it looks half as good as that red cc it'll be sick.
Power picked yet?

Thanks. We are shooting for spring time to be finished. Not in a big rush. Yes we have a pair of 555 dart BBC's that are going in it. They were orig going in the 32 fever, but decided they would be better suited in this, so stock big blocks went in the 32. Will try to getsome pics up in a bit

Well the past 2 days we have been able to get the boat blocked, touch up some spots, re-blocked, ready for the first coat of IMRON. Taped up and ready. Sides and transom feel way better then they did that is for sure. Lots of block work, but should turn out really nice. Just a few shots. Hope to shoot tom. Weather has been great.. Some pics of the deck also, will get to that next season, has some minor flaws that need addressed. Snagged one of the ole captain(dad) in action, doing what he does best. Must thank him for his talent, assistance on this. Should be very respectable when it is finished. :bunnydance:

Also thanks to Glassdave. I know we have spoke with him a few times, he has always been very helpful.

Got the transom done in the first coat, spotted in a few spots along the chine and first strake along the bottom. Tom me might be able to a side done. This Imron flowed out really nice. Should be like glass after a light wet sand and buff.

John jr

Griswald 09-24-2012 08:54 PM

curious...did you think about raising the drives while you had everything out and stripped?

Fenderjack 09-24-2012 09:03 PM

Actually the boat was converted to Bravo's and the X is really high. Dad and me were talking about how neat it would to make this a FULL Stagger. But since the transom, stringers are new, we didn't want to get tied up in all that. It would have been a bad b^&*h full stagger.

Well today was good to us. Was able to get the transom, left hull, side done. Tom we will start on the right side, bottom. Once it is all tied in nice, we will start on the blocking, then hit it with a good buff. Paint laid out pretty well, looks better now then when it was wet( naturally) would seem as what we did body work wise is as nice as any. Will have more pics soon. Now only if we could find some extension boxes :evilb:

Ok all, we were able to get the right bottom sanded down, touched up in some troubled areas, primed, scuffed, then layed some paint down. The entire boat is now painted below the rub. We also started on the back top sides. We have a good bit of paint, material left. We didn't have intentions of doing any of the top this time around, but considering the material we have left, we are going to do atleast the back top sides, possibly the lower gunwales all the way around, if we can do it in the time we have left in the tent.. Then all we will have in store for us next season is to blend the paint to do the deck. It is def more to it then it seems, but it has been fun, to do so far. Plans are to get the areas finished we want to, then move the boat into actual day light, begin the final wet sand and buffing. Stay tuned. :D

TooTall 10-17-2012 06:11 AM

are you going back with the original engine bay vents or upgrading to a newer style?

Fenderjack 10-26-2012 05:30 PM

Going with stainless vents that are flush with the side of the boat.Might powder coat them same white.JOHN SR

Well got it ready to go for the most part. Weather permitting, it isn't to cold we will be able to paint around the decks tom, hopefully have it out of there, bring it home to go over the entire boat with some 800/1000 then buff it out. We felt it wasn't needed to primer the entire section in areas, as the paint was scuffed down was cleaned, will be cleaned well before it is sprayed. All the affected painted areas was certainly removed in hopes to not have future issues.. Fixed some more issues on the boats gunwales with 3m premium marine filler, blocked, finished, then primed with keystone platinum 3 in 1 just like the rest of the boat was done in. Will have some painted pics up as soon as we get there. Coming down to the home stretch. Atleast for now. Spring time we will concentrate on getting the deck done. I think the boat should turn out really really nice, will be badazz looking esp with no deck railings. Also Dad picked up polished stainless through hull fittings. Getting some more of the K planes stuff back from powder soon. I plan to polish all the cleats and fuel caps, external steering parts for a new look before they go back on. Then some very minor clean up in the cockpit. Going to accent some areas in the white carbon di-noc, as well as making step pads out of it on each side of the rear seat backs, so it isn't so slippery when getting in. Going to add a small section of polished diamond plate onto the back wall in the engine compartment to cover all the wiring and trim pumps. Going to add some blue led's to there, the cockpit for some accent lighting.

Were getting there.

Well it is painted. Still will have to paint the top deck, cowling in the spring, but got done what we were after. Addressed all the issues, and blocked the gunwales and side of the cockpit out. Paint layed out nice. Once it sets up, dries good, we are going to block it out with 600, then 800 1000 then buff it. This Imron buffs out surprisingly easy, shines great. Plan to use some 4m di noc for some interior accents, step pads around the seats.

I have seen boats that he has done with the craft, in years past that still shine awesome. was going to go with PPG concept or possibly Imron, but I think ima go with the awlcraft. Thanks. It does seem that anywhere I looked the bonding seemed to be really good, neat. I am happy esp since the boat is a almost as old as me LOL. As for colors, going to go ALL WHITE, Going to do the vents in the blue they are, as it matches the interior accents. Thanks all, again I will keep the thread posted as good as I can on this. I love the lines on our 32 but this has THE LINES I like :drink: Not gona try to set any records, but hope to surprise a few people :D

awlgrip is NOT the same as awl craft... dont kid yourself.... hire a painter use to spraying awlgrip you will be happy you did, nothing holds up better

Fenderjack 11-25-2013 03:55 AM

Well ratman as always you know everything .but if you read any of this you will see we used imron! I know I bet there is something wrong with that also. And I don't need to hire a painter. Man get a life

Oops, sorry about that, box is now emptied.

fastdonzi 11-25-2013 07:06 PM

Having been a Boat Painter for 20+ Yrs I have sprayed probably more than 100Gal each of Imron & Awl Grip. When it comes to "Fine" Finish, Imron is better. However, Awl Grip seems to be a Harder paint, Like a "Shell" like Gelcoat. Its harder to repair since it doesn't blend together as well during the repair, Imron blends together beautifully. Imron was a great choice, Don't sweat it :)
