The ever amazing CUV Cinzano in the hands of Markus Hendriks, Simon Wood-Power and Erick Smillie came home an amazing 2nd yesterday in the Cowes powerboat race, beaten only by the phantom hull Fury/Microlink of Vee Ganjavian and Gareth Williams. Third was the dragon hull Smokin Aces of Chris and Nick Dodge. Dry Martini the 35 totally restored cigarette of Mike Bontoft, Chritian Toll and Richard Carlton came home 6th overall. Conditions were pretty lumpy by all acoounts with several racers choosing to go inshore across Lyme Bay. Cinzano and Fury & Microlink were essentially neck and neck the whole way with the phantom hull slowly easing ahead towards Portland Bill on the return leg and won by a margin of 4 mins 5 seconds. Some great pics here:-

For info it was a clean sweep for Ilmor - powering the first three boats home!!

Our Team filmed the Cowes Torguay Cowes race in 1989 - Big Seas has the footage - give Darren a shout !
Its filmed with the Chalk Cliffs in the background - its narrated LIVE in the Helicopter - Dr. Carlo Bonomi and Fabio Buzzi raced their Cessa - just about sunk it when arriving in Torguay - That was in August of 1989 - by November that same boat arrived repaired and sporting a new name - POPEYES - and raced at Key West - in the Battle of the Seas - 1989 -
Both excellent events for any library - You will see how things are done in Europe as well -
I dont mean to present a commercial, (I am not involved in any sales ) - however seeing events like the Cowes Torguay Cowes event in 1989 bring all to mind of what this thread is about !
Some of these same boats also Raced in New Zealand in 1986 - and Gurnsey 1988 - again - both films unique to Offshore Powerboat Racing.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled programs !
