Think I'm dating myself. I don't even know the new drivers or teams. Seems like every season APBA changes the classes.

I bought Bob Johnsons Blue & White 29' Mirage that he had before the Formula. I repainted it Red & White and raced it i APBA A class back in 1988, 89.

I used to live near Grosse Ille (W. Jeff and Gibraltar Rd) back in the early to mid 80's. My employer lived on G I. One time I was over by the airport, and saw a cat leaning up on it's side against a building. It may have been on a trailer, and it was in a primer condition.

Hi, my name is Randy and I stumbled across this a bit ago. I do not have any pictures but I worked for Continental Trailers when Bob and Jerry bought the boat and I helped do some assembly on it, very little but I remember it very well. Everyone at the shop was amazed at the strength of the fuel cell hatch covet. It was some new product, a honeycomb type product that weighed hardly anything. We had it setting on two 55gl drums at the sides and me and another team members stood on it and it barely flexed. I mixed the two part expanding foam to fill in around the fuel cell. The boat left the shop on its way to England to race as the John Player Special, a cigarette sponsor I think. It was a all women team if I remember correctly.
I hope you see this post, it's quite old.
Take care and thank you for the memories.

Small world, I worked at Eagle trailers after Bob left Continental Trailers. I was working at Continental Trailers when they bought/built the off shore race boat, ContinentalEagle. When Bob left Continental only Bill and myself went with him to start Eagle. I was the painter but early on we three did everything. In early 85 i painted the Mirage. I used Imron paint, that was the best on the market at the time for durability. I remember talking to the paint reps about spraying over gel coat and not having any issues with being in the water.
I have spent a few hours in that Mirage on the Detroit River. I was always impressed at the speed she could run.
run.
I know this is a very old thread, hopefully you will see this.
Thanks for the memories,
Randy

You mentioned Butch Ryan, we built the trailer( Continental Trailers) for his Butch Ryans Express boat. It was a monster trailer. I did the painting on it, took a entire day of non stop painting. It was on stands made in house and I painted it where it was welded up at. Covered that side of the shop with plastic and I used a creeper to paint the underside of it. Wrapped myself up, Covered my face with Vaseline and got after it. We did a salt water paint package. Zinc based primer and urethane yellow paint. The shop box was already painted when it was mounted.
we also did Ms Gallo Wine trailer.
thanks, Randy
