I saw one of the US Customs Blue Thunders at Cat Cay in the bahamas in 1987. It had Lambo V12s in it. Wanted to take a pic but was discouraged by the officer, with a Glock on his thigh....

I saw King Kong at the Shootout in 06 or 07 ?? Sounded awesome with a big blower surge......I've wanted one ever since that day lol I know they're pigs but the amount of people you can fit on them.....it's like a 40 ft pontoon!!

Too bad the ones for sale are usually 15-20k for a bare hull.....friggin ridiculous

What was the power/drive configuration when they were built for the customs? Small blocks with a bravo or trs?

For US Customs I think most were built with Merc 575's based on the 540 Bulldog and #3 speed masters. The one I saw had Lambo v12's and speedmasters. The base power were like Cyclone 440's.

Don was great at a lot of things but cat building wasn't one of them. Cool old boats, though. I've seen a couple at LOTO.
