I raced in the boat with the bravo's it was a handful. My opinion was they mounted the drives way to high. On boxes they were around an inch above the bottom. This caused the boat the want to chine walk and run nose high. They ended up adding ballast to the nose which helped some. I liked the way it ran with the Arneson's much better. it just needed propped better which was a lot of cash back then.

Yup,I have that pic ,, looks like it was riding pretty neutral there which is what you want.
On the 36 race boat what Sal Picon did was run air lines from the top to vent the steps.
Worked well but the 36 was twin step .
Im also re-installing the ballast tank back in the front in case the big blocks make it a little nose happy..
Like I said it will just be a fun poker run boat so its probably not gonna see the seas or speed it used to, if I can get mid 80s out of it Ill be tickled pink. Its still a very solid boat and being the only one ever made makes it all that much more interesting..

Thanks probably 3 blades? I was told to spin in. I'm running 4 blades though with big diameter.

Went to single engine, lost transmissions with Bravo instead of TRS, took out all three tanks up front and installed light weight fuel tank behind cockpit, Built a 25 pound full length honeycomb engine hatch which goes from transom to the back of the two light weight racing seats with two inch aluminom monocot tubed cockpit, Full length 3/16 aluminum dash panel with six inch aluminum deck panel between seating and engine hatch, only a 4x6 ft honeycomb cockpit floor, deleted everything else that makes a stock cockpit, no back seat or heavy bolsters, light weight single engine layup, purchasing mostly aluminum engine components and exhaust. Lowered cockpit floor, light core built in fairing, very light but from the cockpit to the engine mounts, everything ties together. And still going.

Original WMMS Radio Thnuder Buzzard P100

I was the original owner of the WMMS Thunder Buzzard P100 and miss GLOPBRA like crazy. It was the 1st Innovation 24 that was built with Kevlar and unfortunately, being the 1st is not always the best since we were plagued by broken stringers and delamination. It time to reconnect with Bobby Nielson from Eastlake, Ohio who was my navigator and never he let me down..

I know this is an old post but my Dad, Ben Gommel owned and raced Piranha in the late 70s and early 80s. We owned Cuyahoga Boat & Engine in Cleveland and hosted several Glopra races. The boat had 4 Mercury outboard motors. This was the original Boar Hog. My Dad and I were just discussing how the boat would run with 3 of the new Mercury 600s.

Hey Benny! My name is Brian Matthei, My dad Red and your dad were crazies together back at Cuyahoga boat. I remember racing Pirannah with it's black maxes from the boat yard almost to shooters with Bill Steiskal in the Little Scorpion. The twin Volvos get pirannah out of the hole, but once the big Black Max power got that thing moving he got around us. I thought neither would let off and race to the lake, what a ride!

benboat 07-12-2023 11:18 PM

I remember your dad well and those were some crazy times. The Little Scorpion is in Vermilion now running a single big block. I saw it on July 4th.
