I raced in the boat with the bravo's it was a handful. My opinion was they mounted the drives way to high. On boxes they were around an inch above the bottom. This caused the boat the want to chine walk and run nose high. They ended up adding ballast to the nose which helped some. I liked the way it ran with the Arneson's much better. it just needed propped better which was a lot of cash back then.

Yup,I have that pic ,, looks like it was riding pretty neutral there which is what you want.
On the 36 race boat what Sal Picon did was run air lines from the top to vent the steps. Worked well but the 36 was twin step . Im also re-installing the ballast tank back in the front in case the big blocks make it a little nose happy.. Like I said it will just be a fun poker run boat so its probably not gonna see the seas or speed it used to, if I can get mid 80s out of it Ill be tickled pink. Its still a very solid boat and being the only one ever made makes it all that much more interesting.. |
great pics

Thanks probably 3 blades? I was told to spin in. I'm running 4 blades though with big diameter.

Original WMMS Radio Thnuder Buzzard P100
I was the original owner of the WMMS Thunder Buzzard P100 and miss GLOPBRA like crazy. It was the 1st Innovation 24 that was built with Kevlar and unfortunately, being the 1st is not always the best since we were plagued by broken stringers and delamination. It time to reconnect with Bobby Nielson from Eastlake, Ohio who was my navigator and never he let me down..

Fantastic Thread, This never gets old!

I know this is an old post but my Dad, Ben Gommel owned and raced Piranha in the late 70s and early 80s. We owned Cuyahoga Boat & Engine in Cleveland and hosted several Glopra races. The boat had 4 Mercury outboard motors. This was the original Boar Hog. My Dad and I were just discussing how the boat would run with 3 of the new Mercury 600s.

I remember your dad well and those were some crazy times. The Little Scorpion is in Vermilion now running a single big block. I saw it on July 4th.
