Default contemplating a repower

I have an old xk 22 with the original 350 and volvo 270. Im thinking about repowering to either a bbc bravo or small block gsi volvo. Do y'all think with the boats desirability would the repower help or hinder its value?

I would thing a Merc repower would help. I always loved those boats but wont touch one because of the volvo.

I did a 20' Cigarette with 350 and volvo years ago. we switched it to a duo-prop and it was great. Motor made 300HP and drive handled it well. Ran in the low 60's and handled really wall barely need tabs. Unless you plan on putting a transom in the boat you would be better off sticking with a volvo set-up. They will take the horsepower of a pretty stout small block.

I would stick with the volvo, as said if you don't plan to re-do the transom you can find a 280T transom plate and find a DP lower to hang off it. the 280T will give you trim and the DP will give you great handling. I think staying close to the original power plant will help . I think as value is concerned that anyone who is going to appreciate the heritage of the boat will also appreciate the effort to keep it as original as possible. The volvo is a strong drive and I have seen them work on a daily basis with decent SB power for decades without any issues. If you plan on re-doing the transom cut a merc hole in it , it will give you the best options merc or volvo. I would think the new 380 DP offering from Volvo would be a great choice

That would definitely be ideal, but I have to see a 280t for sale. Or the the 290 DP for that matter. As far as the 380DP, I imagine that's a little ways out of my price range. But ya'll guessed right that I am wanting a tilt and trim unit. My boat doesn't have either right now, and finding a v8 equipped boat has been difficult.
