Yeah, asking price is rediculous but I know how Mainers work... Cash talks. BTW, I know absolutely nothing about this boat, just stumbled onto it while surfing Craigs.

MidOcean 10-08-2013 07:32 AM

Big,

I have always loved that model. It's the 402 hull with a "magnum sedan" style deck. I didn't even know there was a China, ME.

Found another - same price - BUT running.

Quirky looking boat, never seen that model before.

There were a few around Miami in the 80's. Very cool boat.

Those have to be the tallest pedestal seats ever!

Somewhat similar to the original set up for the 28 Cigarette.

The boat in California at 20K, running WITH a trailer sounds closer to a realistic value - puts the one in Maine at around 4K. That guy's sending me some pics. I'll post as soon as I get them. AND he has no trailer for the boat.

The boat with a bracket and a pair of 300 HPDI's would be pretty cool. Install a "U" shaped seating unit in place of the engine compartment... etc. The Yamahas should run the boat as fast as those 330's with a lot less weight.

I remember the 402 we used as pace boat for the 1984 Holiday Isle race - a flat deck - weighed like 14k dry. These have to be more like 16.

That boat alone weighs 15,000 lbs. A trailer will be $ 6500 at least for a 40ft 15-18 k trailer and thats nothing fancy.

damn that is a really cool old thing ... Anyne got any more info on it?? any other around
love it. the guys over at the old school facebook page would go nuts over that
crazy how boats like that turn up that most of have never heard of just goes to show how much of the industry is looong gone now.. real shame
I would snap it up so fast!

I saw this one a while back. Funky, but I didn't really like it. Now that I'm kind of hungover I like it more? The painted one looks better.

Advantage built a 40' that looks somewhat similar to this..

TeamSaris 10-10-2013 01:08 PM

Two outboards will never push a boat that big and heavy as well as two big blocks. 3 Verado's MIGHT get it on plane lol

Respectfully I dissagre. Two HPDI 300's will run this boat and then some. Look at what a pair of 250 OX66's will do with a 35 Contender at 12,000 #. Pulling those heavy TRS drives, C-72 transmissions and BBC's out will reduce a tremendous amount of weight. I bracket will also give more flotation. My bet - 300 HPDI's - the boat does 35 - 40.

I get what you're saying, but Id still want the torque of the big blocks. Plus with outboards spinning 6k+, you will need some very small wheels. 18mph might very well be 4500rpm. Not what I see as efficient.

C_Spray 10-10-2013 03:07 PM

For a 30-year-old design, it's kind of cutting edge. Kind of like the beta version of the 400 SuperSport.

Love the roomy layout. I'd be all over the one on BoatTrader if it was located a bit closer. Drop a pair of modern diesels in that and you'd double your cruising range along with fuel economy.

We looked at a 35 Contender, early 90's boat, 12000 lb. 250 OX-66's, 42 mph, 5000 rpm's with 21" 3 blades. There is no way a 15000 boat with a 5' longer hull and 100 more horsepower is only dong 18. Sorry man. Got too much faith in the HPDI's.

Let's not forget that those 330's are really only putting out 290 at the prop. The TRS/ Velvet drive combo robbed power. It's almost a swap, HP for HP. Torque... yes. You got me there.

This is almost worth going to California for. Any ideas how to get around the air brakes on that trailer? I know "Wheels" had a air brake actuator in his old truck. Never knew how it worked though.

I like it. Loose the big bow rail for a smaller pulpet style up front. Cut down the windscreen just a little and taper the sides of it back. Add some big diesels and Arnesons....

Wow, that is why I can never win the lottery! I would see something like this and then just have to build it...... and end up loosing thousands of $$$.

I agree about cutting down the windscreen - maybe even going to a solid.

Very Funky!
I would imagine the interior has lots of headroom by the looks of it? I'm not a big fan of the side window however...
I agree with the other poster who said to cut the windshield down a couple of inches. That would make it look a little bit more sleeker.
Looks heavy? It would be a good wave crusher? I would imagine it would cruise along at 45mph all day long?

Nice looking boat for it's age though................................
