Magnum "short circut" on Ebay
#11
When I speak with people just getting into restoring Magnums, they say I just picked up this bargain for $5,000.Then they say with another $5,000 it will be perfect...my usual reply is plan on at least $40-50,000 with all of what you want to do. They laugh...and when we talk a year later they say this is an expensive restore, and my comment is it will be cheaper and better than anything you buy new.

Well put Bud. The cost of my new engines alone is more than the boat is worth as a whole if I believe what I read, surly that must be nonsense !. However I was not re-building it for any one else, it`s for me.
Sure it`s for sale should someone wish to pay my price or they can go and re-build their own, take 3 year and kid themselves that they 'Got a Deal'.
Nothing beats practical experience, unless you have the cash and you can pay someone else to do it for you. It is however going to cost either way !!!!

I have always loved the magnum 27's.... But just wince when I see that engine compartment.. Can't imagine having two of everything packed in there, or hanging off the transom - twice the parts and twice the chance of failure - when I have basically the same exact hull dimensions with a single.
Anybody know what the weight comes to without engines and drives? Is the total with em over 6,000 lbs? I'd struggle with wanting to convert to a single during a restoration... Although I'm sure that would mean some stringer re-construction. The squadron is 4,200 with a single, but I have a feeling the magnum might be a lot more even if converted to single - which would mean drive strength issues if I wanted any speed out of it. Never did see any details on the one I saw on OSO that had been converted.

The weight of a 27 sport with small blocks is somewhere north of 5000lbs. A few were made with single power only race boats that I am aware of. With todays engines I think its a viable option, think of how many pantera 28's are singles. If you want to really see crammed here is mine with big blocks.

My engine looks lonely in the same amount of space
