Default 38 Flatdecks>>> Cig or Scarab??????

So I have found 2 38 flatdecks I'm interested in. One is a 1984 Cigarette Top Gun that is fairly original but the motors have been done (540s dynoed @ 610 ea 100hrs) and the BW trans are redone. as well as the TRS drives. Full SS exhaust with captains call, nice solid boat, no swim platform, needs cleaned up a bit, has been kept on a lift in the upper Chesapeake bay near where I live, has no trailer. he has several extra TRS drives and props as well as a full cover that goes with it.The other is an 83 377 Scarab completely redone, gel coat, cabin interior, cockpit interior, tubular swim platform, Graffig monster gauges, motors are also recently done (540s @ 540 ea 70hrs) and new BW trans,TRS drives, turn key boat, with a trailer, but is 650 miles from me. Both are similar money (once a trailer is bought for the Cig).

Big question< I know the hulls are very similar but what about build quality of each, I have owned wellcrafts before, and like them alot, but I just did a sea trial on the Cig and was impressed with it as well. I know the the scarab is 9" wider, not that that makes a huge difference. But I did like the fact that the Cig has a tube molded in to run all the cables and wiring in, its little things like this that make me think the Cig is a better designed boat. It ran well, 67mph on my phone app GPS, in flat water using 24P 4 blades@5000 rpm. the owner of the Scarab states 70 on GPS.

Buy the Cig that is local and needs a trailer and minor updates??

Or travel 10 hours to Michigan for the done Scarab on a trailer??

I will be using which ever one I choose in the Chesapeake bay as well as off shore in OCMD

Not looking for a super fast boat just a solid well built set up that my family and I will be comfortable in

I would do the Cig, but get a survey....

You can find used trailers on The hull truth also. I would get an alum 3 axle set for 15k or 18k.

Gotta think the cig will resell better, but both are nice looking rigs. With good surveys, don't think you you'll be unhappy either way

Just buy both!?!?! When you want the swim platform take the Scarab. When you don't take the Cig. But if you don't buy both I'm more partial to the Cigs. I've have my 86 Flat Deck for 7 years and love every summer.
