SkaterMike82 10-30-2015 01:49 PM

one hell of a machine and as i said RARE.

Performer was Bill Elswick's boat company. They were located near SE15 th st in Fort Lauderdale.

Bill raced one of these 36's when he first moved up to Open class from the Production class, where he was running with a 27 foot Magnum.

Good boats and rare as stated but in the era it was built, it will be heavy.

It was on a big old school trailer on the main road. I didn't want to go poking through the guy's yard taking pics unannounced . I was under the impression from some pics of Bounty Hunter that the were the same boat. But I wouldn't know. Next time I'm down there, I'll knock on the door. BTW it has a cig emblem on it. Also , this boat, while it tough to see this boat really appears to be 40'.

That boat here Bounty Hunter is a real 40 foot Cigarette raced by Billy Martin to a lot of wins.

Look on the side of the boat where the hull and deck are joined. Now imagine a 36 foot boat being stretched to a 40 foot. The back gets lower in the water. So Don added that step up so the transom and the exhausts would not be under water.

Billy liked the look so he added that style deck on his 36 without stretching it to a 40 footer.

Here are a few Performer ads, I believe BLACK JACK was a Performer too. They also made a 28' Donzi Sportsman copy.

turbo rr 10-31-2015 07:41 AM

I think they made a 40 performer also.

Thats what I thought too

bwd 10-31-2015 11:38 AM

Is it not a possibility that this is a cig? How many did they make 40' long. I guess I need to take a drive back down there and knock on the door. I'll bring my girlfriend she's better at that. Knock knock.... " hello sir, my boyfriend wants to look at your boat, and talk shop and bromance." LOL
How many Performers were made? For whatever it is worth it has a old style cig emblem on it. All the running gear is still on it too. Speedmasters and such.

TENSION 10-31-2015 12:51 PM

You're right, get back down there and find out! And, more photo's, of the boat, and the girlfriend.......

Are you going to be at Englewood?

Lee 10-31-2015 04:09 PM

It is a 1973 40' CRT400081273 already covered in this thread a few years back. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/c...race-boat.html

bwd 10-31-2015 05:45 PM

That's it! Cool

scarab63 10-31-2015 06:03 PM

That boat has been in the same spot for at least 10 yrs id guess , untouched. A Rot box by now most likely. but still catches my eye when I drive by.

Edit. Looks like it's been sitting untouched for almost 8 by info on other link

Shame, but I cant save them all and still remain married.

Kalaazar 11-01-2015 11:52 AM

Glad that I don`t live in the States, the temptation would be too much !!!!

Life`s to short and too many boats to rebuild, I would be like a dog in a forest.

Again, what a shame. Bet the owner wont sell or wants so much money for it, it will turn to dust before it sells.

SorciOffshore 11-23-2015 12:55 AM

I love these classic offshore boats, and I would love to restore one, and build up a couple of fuel injected, naturally aspirated big blocks to be period correct. These boats may be seen as heavy and slow by today's newer boating generation, but that's missing the focus of these machines. These are true blue water, wave crushers meant to run fast in big water, not to run on smooth lakes or calm seas. They were built incredibly strong, then several more layers were added for good measure. I would much rather have a classic offshore boat than a modern boat.....unless it's a modern McManus boat.
