Cigarette-Race Boat
Just saw this boat tonight (in the dark) outside in a boatyard. H.I.N. is CRT400081273--name is My CLASSIC D-81, A.P.B.A. decals on hull--staggared motors w/#3 ? drives--tripple bolster race boat. Looked like a 40' cig. How many were made, race or pleasure ? Will try to post pictures this week-end. HIGH LIFE

Mainly right on the hull ID, reads like this:
CRT - Manufacturer
40 - Model
008 - Serial #
1 - stands for the month it was built but the number does not have to coordinate with the month (1 does not mean Jan, etc.)
273 - boat was built in 1972 as a '73 model

A little bit late
My grandfather was the owner of this boat. He raced in the late 80's and early 90's in the apba. He has always told me that there are only three of these ever made. He was the driver, his thottle man and him were also the mechanics and the navigation man was the artist. He had travled to places like alantic city, key west, ocean city, michagan lake and manny other I do not remember. The best he ever did was 2nd place. He said as the boat was already older the years he raced he was loosing to faster and lighter boats making it very difficult to compete. We do have a couple of videos of him raceing (very hard to see as the video quality sucks back then) I will try to convert from vhs somehow. Hopefuly you are still a active member and get this.

There was a 40 Cig here on Lake St Clair back then that was yellow called BIG BIRD on one side & KING KONG on the other side. I was owned by a guy who had a snowmobile, ATV parts store, I believe his name was Hank Roberts. Where this one is today ??????????????
