B38.............You have a beautiful "old skool & very sleek boat" Something that you can't buy like that today!........ Forgive me if you spoke about her earlier, but I've just taken notice. Can you tell me a little bit about her?
was she built very light for racing....kevlar?..........what's the beam?...........staggered big power?...........full race no cabin?.............the year?..................nothing, absolutely nothing would I prefer this over a more expensive
newer boat.

B38 10-20-2016 10:42 PM

1975 staggered BB mild power
No cabin, glass layup 8,214 lbs.
Beam 8.9"
only two of the twelve made where glass, Don Onkins GoodWrench and mine.

B38, I remember when you posted (user name-Solo) on Speedwake that you were looking for pics or information on 38 Bertram Race boats. That was on 4/14/05. I was using the name Magnum Malcolm and identified it as possibly the Needle Nose boat. I followed your restoration ...and I'm envious of what you've done with her. She is a CLASSIC!!

B38 10-21-2016 05:12 PM

Fast Shafts, thanks for the good words and dates that once again tells me how fast time goes by when your having fun. wow.
When I look back there was a vision that nobody understood, I stated wait and see. Friends thought I was crazy including my family, now all I hear is Wow!. Silence
In a few weeks look for me at Key West, then Toys for Tots run on December 10th. who hoo

B38 10-26-2016 09:14 AM

Lucky Strike
Would you happen to know when and what event that was. I would like to find the details of event.
Thanks. Kurt

lucky strike 10-26-2016 09:44 AM

The Benihana Grand Prix At The king's Grant inn Point Pleasant N.J.
I think about July 1976.

Fast Shafts 10-26-2016 10:28 AM

Lucky is right, 1976. Cam 2 with Roger Penske and Bob Magoon won.

B38 10-27-2016 05:54 AM

Are there any videos of event. List of entries, anything pertaining to event.

Ran in that boat, that race, with Davey Gilmore and "Diamond Don" Smith.

Kurt-there is a great video of this race on youtube. Search on youtube "Offshore Powerboat Grand prix-Benihana 1976" -or go to the thread on this forum "Betty and the Boys" for a link.

I actually appear in the video as a 13 year old at the 18:02 mark (blue and white sweat jacket, and glasses, in the foreground). We debuted our new 35' Cigarette "Conspiracy" at the 1976 Marina Del Rey race. 40 years ago, Yikes!

B38 10-27-2016 02:39 PM

No video of Really Ridiculous, oh well I tried. Sammy James and Preston Henn did very well with the Bertram 38 hull. Still smiling though, great times.

B38 I've been looking for the Copper Kettle Bertram race boat ever since I started working for the Riggs Marine. At one time I thought I found her up in Canada. But when I showed Mel Riggs
and John Treptow the photos of the boat they both said it was not the boat. John was Mel's drive mechanic that started working for Mel when he started his business in the 70s.
If I get my hands on her I was planning on doing a full restoration. I will keep on looking.

No john in Canada owns copper kettle. She was redone years ago. Has Speedmasters#5s correct. For sale for 25k. I have his number some where including email address. I purchased his lighting headers from copper kettle. She is painted all white currently.
