Barn Find 1987 Scorpion 29 foot

I originally had small blocks & the boat ran wet as it likes weight in the stern I repowered it with Merc Iron 330 Big Blocks. It ran better but with that west coast bottom it never ran as dry as my two Magnums I have now. Here is a pic of it's powertrain it has now the new owner put in.

I can shed a bit of light on this. That boat looks an awful lot like one of the old owners of Scorpion's boat. I believe his name was hill. Of course I was a kid so I may be wrong. The boat was likely built in Collingwood in what is now the C.R.S. rental store. They built a bunch of 21s, a few 19s and a 16'. My family had a new 16' that was bought new in I think 1989. One of the other owners of Scorpion was a guy named St. Amour. He was doing fibreglass repairs in Owen Sound still in the mid 00's.
I do not think they made many 30's. I know of two or three complete (including yours). Their was an unfinished/uncovered hull kicking around for years but I do not know where it ended up. They built an outboard one that twin Yamahas. I have a vhs of the 1991 Georgian bay poker run that has the outboard one. It was called Lady Sting.
It was also in a warehouse in Owen Sound until atleast the early 00's. I always loved them and they hold a big nostalgic piece of my heart. BUT they were known to have
water intrusion/lamination issues (the 21s anyways.) But yours looks awesome. Congrats.

Mitch, good memory! John worked out of one of my buildings for a couple of years. He did the bottom work on my 233. He tried to sell me a 30' hull that had never been rigged, and the balsa in the hull was all wet. He had some really good guys working for him, but he was always behind in paying bills so they would cut corners when they had to.
