That’s actually a ‘99 model, mfg in 98.

That should make it first yr Ficht and if so, it’s a direct bolt up.

They were known for computer problems.

Had a buddy down here w/early ones like those on a fish boat and about 15 mls offshore one would shut down.

Hed stop and fish, it’d cool off and fire right up and take him home.

He found one that was reman’d and it did the same thing.

I knew the first part and guessed the second part after staring at that deck seam a while, and recaulking one!

Took Cowl off and snapped a few pictures of the starboard engine, head is off it. The C.D.I unit on it lists it as a 2001 Johnson 225 Carburated Looper engine. Is this correct?

Twin O/B Sonic 08-09-2025 12:09 PM

Wow

I stand corrected.

evinrude started direct injected as Fichts in ‘98 while Johnsons continued as carbureted through I think 2001 which was their last year for production.

The cowling style on your motor threw me.

I’ve never seen those on carb’d motors before with the louvers in the back.

Most of them anyhow have that style cowling.

I would say you’re in a way better position with carbonated anyhow.

Now you’ve got something. Easy to work on and cheap to get parts for.

i’ve got a good crank if you need one, plenty of rods and rod bearings, maybe even pistons.

You can throw the block in a propane grill and heat it up and pull a sleeve out and put another one back in and save the block if there’s no holes.

Mine are ‘2000 225 Johnson’s.

Twin O/B Sonic 08-09-2025 12:28 PM

PS, post up pixsoif the bad hole.

Now that we know there carb’d, I’ll go back to what I told you on the phone.

on those it’s normally #2 which is port side, top hole.

Check the block for broken head bolts too.

If their salty motors, the inner head bolts like to seize.

Twin O/B Sonic 08-10-2025 05:38 AM

Wrong again!

I can see by the pixs that the starboard head is off.

Based on that, I’d guess a piston lost a ring locating pin.

That powerpack is aftermarket.

From the pixs it appears very clean and to have not been apart.

Great donor motor.

Finally got the hatch piston disconnected and the hatch open, took a couple of pictures of the engine bay from the inside, Not sure what kind of power the boat had because the holes and base are not what I'm use to seeing

I added a picture of the Armstrong bracket's part number

Twin O/B Sonic 08-18-2025 05:31 AM

The old, filled bolt holes look to be from orig Gil brackets.

My first 24’ still had them and that bolt pattern looks about right.

Not sure what the small square plates are covering but definitely not an original IO opening.

Id also say the #s on your Armstrong brackets are probably a serial # indicating mfg date of ‘2015.

From what I can see, I’d guess it was born an OB hull.

Look at the stringers a couple feet fwd of transom and see if you see any plugged holes from motor mounts.

Moving along slowly but getting things done
Got the Ram assembly out so I can repair it.
Put 2 new batteries in so I can figure out the power situation
Picked up another 225 Power plant and dropped it off to get gone thru before it gets rigged onto the boat
Posting pictures of the K-tabs, they work now, still need to be filled and bled again, just wondering which K-planes these might be? they are 14" wide at the base,9:wide at the short end and 18" long

probably a little backwards, but had a cover made for it. It is sitting outside for a few more months and figured it would be a good idea to vacum out all the junk inside the cabin and cockpit and them be able to keep it covered, pulled the rear seat assembly out and the rear deck cushion to get upholstered and pulled all the cabin cushions out to clean them

After some digging and meeting a guy that tried to buy this boat 15 years ago found out the boat originally, came with 225 O.M.C. Sea Drives.
From what I understand that's why the previous owner went to the Armstrong bracket and a pair of 225 Johnsons. (one of the original sea drives had grenaded.

Twin O/B Sonic 09-26-2025 10:56 AM

Interesting.

The one drive system we hadn’t considered!

That explains the old mounting bolt pattern.

Well spring is finally here and started getting things done. fuel lines, hoses, etc.
Does anyone have an idea where the fresh water pump might be? It's got the 2 sinks with a seperate shower head, a 3 way valve for the shower head and sink on the starboard side. The fill is on the port side for the tank but I'm not sure where to look for the pump
