Default Help on process and materials

Starting a gelcoat restoration project. Boat had decals from its previous racing life. Shiney where they were but oxidized everywhere else. Where numbers were on sides of hull has raised edge all the way around where the numbers were. Feels like a paint line. I sanded one away with 1000 grit so I think I can get it all blended. It appears the sides of this boat may have been painted. I can feel a line on the bottom of the sponson. Questions: What buffer should I buy? What wheels, pads, etc. and where should I get them. I plan on wetsanding with 1000 and higher. May try 800 or even 600 if need. What products should come next and on which pad etc. ie: 1000 grit then compound (what product on what pad until I see or feel what) then polish (on what pad until I see or feel what). Then? Detail guy I could use is 2 months out and 200 miles away. I think he would have to store boat outside as well. Don't like that! Want to see what I can do myself.

As for polishing compound I use "Farecla"
I love it! It's water based so you can cut it with water.
I use the "G-Mop" for application.
