I have seen Spot repairs (or 'blow ins') done (on regular Awlgrip) and they entailed plenty of compounding/waxing (Not sanding though) to make them appear to blend in.

Looked fine in the limited light of the workshop. Two months later out in the elements there was a huge tan coloured halo around each one and premature chalking.

That's why I've always said .... With Awlgrip , the finish that comes out of the gun is what you get !

Thanks man, thats kinda what i thought. I know they are adamant about NOT buffing Awlgrip. I figured it had to with UV surface protection and that would about verify it.

I developed a technique for gunning in that requires no buffing if need be. I wont say its a 100% perfect but it is a very nice blend and can be left as sprayed if necessary. I had to come up with something for repairs in the middle of a boat as it isnt feasible to shoot the whole side, unless of course it is a repair to a custom fade. In those cases you have to re do everything.

Is it still possible to spot in Awlgrip if you dont buff the blend?

Is that for regular Awlgrip that you're talking about ? ?


As for the spotting in of Awlgrip , I'm not a pro painter, I can only tell you what I've seen done in the recent past. I can't imagine doing a spot and then NOT having to blend it in with a lot of compounding and waxing etc. The stuff never flows into the existing finish smoothly. I don't know if Awlcraft 2000 is any better at that but at least it's buffable.

oops, sorry i didn't clarify, actually its a technique i use for spot clear over a basecoat repair. I just wonder if Awlgrip sprays similar enough for it to work. Works pretty good and as i said not 100% perfect but most people off the street probably would not notice the blend. I suppose it may not work with Awlgrip now that you mention flow out because it requires a bit of over thinning.

I dont use Awlgrip much, in fact its been years but i like to keep up on things. Thanks.
