DCU-2021 for me, been using PPG for years and get great results. I have heard good things about Spies but have not used it. Could be very well true about MTI. They have a great in house guy. I just haven't had the need to try anything else. What is it that you like about SH clears over others?

welcome aboard 88, what part of the biz are you in? I use to have an 84 24' Concord
Thanks for the welcome Dave. I've been in the collision biz for 16 yrs. done a lot of restos on some really cool cars and trucks. We use sikkens at the shop, it's really good paint. We also get into small boat repair and jetskis. It keeps us busy when the collision work is slow.I look forward to talking again, seems like you have some extensive knowledge in this biz. That is a rare thing these days, dieing breed.

Its mainly the Base Coat that sold me on Spies. Excelent color match and the coverage is unreal. 2 coats and it covers no matter what color. In the production world that is money in the pocket. Faster cycle times. And less material build. As far as the clear In my opinion the 8035 is as good or better than anything out there. Its high build. really thick as most european clears are. I spray it thru a SATA RP with a 1.3 head. It layes down amazing. I never have to buff anything unless there is a few specks of dirt to nib out....or tape lines from a custom job. My booth usually does a great job of keeping things clean thoe.

+1 on spies, never go back to anything else, to answer first question, glass dave had it on the money, only apply extra coats to build as needed, my personal boat has two coats, 1 extra on graphics, also used 8035. never rubed, 3yrs. old shines like new.

For Glass Dave, have tons of unopen PPG for sale, pm me.

I only apply 2 coats on the collision work i do but some of the harleys have so many colors and the customers dont want to feel anything so it takes a few more. Th e8035 is def hard to beat. #1 in my book

Never sprayed it but heard its good product. Sikkens is all i have used as far as collision work goes, and we have to switch to water base soon. I have trained in it and its not bad, just different way of doing things. The big thing is the envoroment in the shop and the spraybooth. Turbulent driers in the booth, i cant wait. When you do multi coat clear do you put two on, then sand and do more?

I have sprayed water also. We are getting ready to put in a water system but keeping the solvent too. You cant do multo color custom work with water because it will delaminate from its self if you let it dry, stripe over it and put a dif color over the first. im real close to louisville KY and EPA is pretty strict on us too. we had to re vamp our boot last year to make it 99.8% polution free. Just another expencive filter to change quarterly. LOL. I have put as much as 4 to 5 coats on in one setting before but if its really hot and humid its not good practice. usually 3 coats, Bake or just air dry over night, sand with 1000-1200 wet, then a couple more coats. Ill be doing this to my boat next month. its goin under the gun, Im makin it ME!

When you do it for a living its hard to find the time to do it for yourself. Paint it up!
