Default Poly flake gel

Looking at a boat that is all poly flaked. Mainly a silver with black and red trim. Seems to be in good shape but the silver has some "yellowing" to it.

How is poly flake sprayed? Is it mixed in the gel or is clear gel sprayed then the flake laid in behind it? Could one sand this down enuff to get rid of the "yellowing" then shoot new clear gel on top of the flake to seal it back up?

its kind of a labor intensive process outside of a mold. There are a couple ways;

Mixed in clear gel and applied with a gel "dump" gun and after desired coverage is reached apply several more coats of just clear gel. After cure block surface and buff

Apply a layer of clear gel and use a low pressure "broadcast" type gun to blow the flake onto the surface. Again after coverage is reached apply several more coats of raw clear and block after cures.

Both processes require a fair amount of elbow grease and while they work ok for repair they are very difficult to do in stripes. The yellowing is not something that will sand off and is probably just a product of UV damage. Flake jobs are best done as a complete respray as the blend edge is next to impossible when hard lined.
