Deltron is cheaper than concept or dbu.
Good paint costs a good bit.

That said, you get what you pay for in the auto paint world.

Think of it this way, do you really want to save a c note and have your engine paint peel?

I called ppg deltron is tested to 220 deg. should be fine. They have a paint they use for commercial use such as equipment which the engine is also painted at the same time.
It is rated for 440 deg. Only available through commercial dist. Still looking into it.

I would rather spend more on the paint. than pull the engine and start over.

Deltron is about $140(per quart), plus applicable tax in your area, primer is around $63(per quart), hardener $36... The OMNI is about $37 per quart and seems fine for a marine engine. Maybe I'm on glue here, but $200 to paint an engine? $100 or so is reasonable, however most guys aren't building $30,000 engines these days, so the $200 + paint job is overkill IMO.

Spend the $$$ on some good quality paint, do it once, and don't worry about it for a long time. Use the cheaper stuff if you want to repeat the process a lot sooner, IMHO. So far, I like what I've read about this deltron paint and will buy some when I need to pull my enignes one of these days.

If the block is CLEANED properly... $8.00 a can engine paint will be just fine and it's not coming off on its own. Rough cast has enough "tooth" to it to hold on to almost any kind of paint. I've not done hundreds of them... but I guarantee I've done 50 or more and paint coming off has never been an issue.

I couldn't agree more! I've done a few and never an issue. If I do oil pans I use aircraft stripper, remove any rust, and wash with detergent. After wipe down with paint prep and tack rag, prime with several light coats and use duplicolor high temp engine paint.

Are there better paints, SURE, however if there isn't an existing issue, spending $200 on paint is gaining nothing IMO. I do live in Arizona, so maybe the dry climate plays into this as well as the the lack of salt water...

Por 15. Tough as nails it's not cheap though. I painted my aluminum oil pan with deltron. The pan spent over an hour in a heated parts washer (it gets hot) neither the chemicals or the heat phased it. The parts washer removes rattle can paint like it was never painted...
