stick with 1708 on everything it is easily formable and you need that for draping over stringers and at the very minimum vinylester. if you do go with epoxy use a 1700 fabric (no stitched mat) at the end of the day the cost dif between poly and ve is only about twenty percent or so but the properties of the ve are leaps an bounds ahead of poly. I tend to stick with ve for just about everything, give uscomposites.com a look they have some really good pricing.

you could save a few buck going with an 1808 fabric (chinese 0/90) its half the cost of 1708 45/45 but is tough to bend over radiuses below an inch or so.

to bad ya dont live closer, id sell ya at cost. I get ve for around twenty bucks a gallon, I buy at manufacturer levels and the more I buy the cheaper it gets so I dont mind passing it on once in a while.

were planning a trip up above cincy here before long, we will be going to check out the put in bay..and see what all the hipe is about there, we here alot of it down this way but live on cumberland, vacation's tend to be on other lakes..go figure..i could get ahold of you about the ve if it works out..

so your saying stick with the 1708 or the chinease brand for the stringers transom and the decking, as well as the laminating the stringers to the boat shell..you just use 1708 all the way around...where does chop strand come in, and what materials would I need to fabricate a good solution of the peanut butter for the stringer bedding...Your thoughts?

ohhh . . . its not hype get ready for what we call Key North (theres a reason why they have Put-in-Bay days down in Key West ) let me know when you will be up this way you will be within a few minutes of me on your way to the Bay (or can be pending what route you take).

I stock 1708, VE, Corebond, mat, etc. Figure out exactly what you are replacing, stringers, transom, bulkheads, ??? and I will put together a punch list. 1708 is the only fabric you need with a few yards of mat for laminating wood panels together. For fillets and bedding stringers use Corebond.

I use to do Cumberland every year after Labor day, it was cooler out and made the hot tub on the house boat better to have love it down there.

Dave,

what were replacing are the stringers front to back, all bulk heads and throw in enough for the transom layout for we are probably going to replace for good measure since it's apart to this degree...as well as the entire deck..

ill go with your suggestion's on product use and amount figuring you being in the industry on a professional level you likely know far better what we will need.. were trying keep it as close to 500.00 as we can not sure exactly how much of some of this stuff we will be using.. resin probably the most important to get while he's up there..

were gonna have someone in the dayton area most likely looking at another project that we are interested in so if all works out, IF being the key word were gonna have him visit you to pick up the materials. we'll be in touch.

Dave,

what formula am i lacking for giving you the punch list you requested for the fabric, id like to get a ball park on what to expect to be spending, i suggested around five hundred dollars, honestly im not sure what that will get us in the way of materials needed.. if you could put any input in here or give me a hand on coming up with an amount to figure on having to purchase based on your past knowledge of similiar projects it would be helpful.

im figuring 3 5 gallon resin

1708 fabric, amount unknown

and if you could fill in some of the other useful things we should be considering it would go along way.

thanks

looking to here from you..

looking at the pics from the the photo bucket page and going from memory (sorry i get inundated doing estimates this time of year and need to refresh my memory)

26 footer-

all stringers
all bulkheads
transom
flooring

i would use the 0/90 1808 cloth at about two twenty a roll at and i can get a poly resin thats around one ten for a five gallon pail. Maybe two or three gallons of corebond for misc stuff at forty a gallon. this is the most cost affective method

my guess
ten yards of 1.5 oz mat
three fives of resin
two rolls of 1808
three gallons of corebond

puts ya right around seven twenty give or take. you could probably get away with one roll of 1808 (its roughly 120' long) and two fives of resin but i always buy long when ordering, it just depends on how comfortable you feel on being close.
