hi. what works for pulling a mold off a glass part without risking having it become part of that part? i have heard PAM cooking spray. doing a little glass work on a boat with wheels. (vette)

Mold release wax works pretty good...

if you have a piece you need to protect and guarantee release its hard to go wrong with Part-all wax and PVA as a two part system. When I pull from gelcoated parts generally I use just a high temp release wax but if I have a painted part that cannot be harmed or altered I will use PVA over the waxed surface, pretty much a fail safe barrier.


what are you working on? in a previous life before switching to all boats I had a car restoration shop and much of it was Vettes, hell I think I had my hands on pretty much one from every year from 54 on up. I actually think the C1 was my favorite, the blueflame six had a lot of character.

would also depend on what you are doing.....if your trying to take a mold of an interior section like say the truck for a custom sub box...then painters tape on the carpet followed by a layer of aluminum foil and light coating of PAM and you can start laying glass......most guys just use a few layers of tape and go right ontop of that but i never felt good having glass that close to carpet.....if the foil sticks when you pull it it usually peels off easily...and if the tape sticks then same thing it usually peels off easily.....if on the outside body then a few very good waxings followed by some PVA will work...like what glassdave said above

So you never detailed any of the 53's..............I had a guy tell me once that he had a red 53 Vette, I say O ya who painted it, he said no it's factory red, I just walked away.

nope, restored pretty much one of every other C? (and just about every year to, only missing 53, 59 and 62 in the pre 82 catagory), no 53's though. The 54 I did will actually be back in my shop in a week or so the owner nicked the trunk reveal and needs a little touch up. Gotta love white single stage, super easy repair. Great car to drive . . . .
