Have not tried delfleet yet. I suspect the cost difference is in UV protection thats a big part of higher end paint prices. I will look into it I have heard its some tough stuff.

I am a Axalta (Dupont) paint jobber. So the lines of paint I am more familiar with will be the dupont lines. On my boat we used a cocktail of products. Chromapremier sealer over the exciting gel-coat. Then Nason base coat with the activator. Then Imron 3480s clear.
1. We have found out over the years. That the chromapremier sealer bonds very well with gel-coat. Which means it will not chip easy. On a side note you could use 2510s white epoxy primer/sealer instead and get about the same results. 2. Next I went with Nason basecoat for cost savings. And that we did multiple colors. Activating the basecoat isn't a must but helps with the bonding. Again comes back to not wanting any chipping when it gets scratched. 3. Used the Imron 3480s clear for it's durability. Has a nice shine not the best but very scratch resistant. Imron has a clear called 500s if you wanted a higher gloss finish. Now I had a very well experienced paint paint my boat. For the reason of the Imron clear used does not wet sand and polish. It can be done but you will not have and fun. |
