The tank is painted with epoxy and ready to drop in.
Glassed in supports under the tank since I dont plan on using foam. I am planing on putting plates under the floor for mounting the seats. But to do that I need seats so i can figure out the placement. So I started to rebuild the seats. So its cold and time for a update... the project has been moving slowly....very slowly. Several little parts blocking larger parts of the build. The mission creep has gotten the best of me. Hydraulic steering changed the dash and i wanted to fill some other holes there as well. I needed to figure out the steering wheel location to place the seats and put the plates in the floor. Learning to shoot gel for the dash project set me back about three months also. But enough jabber on with the pictures...

Good to see your progress! Keep in mind it is always slower than planned! Just keep it up and you will see the light!

Floors glassed Monday |
Nice work! The dash looks outstanding. Keep on keeping on, you’ll have a very sound boat when it’s all said and done.

when you sprayed the gel, how'd you do it ? any pics how the tank is held in place ? |

when you sprayed the gel, how'd you do it ? any pics how the tank is held in place ? what you see is my third or fourth attempt! To shoot the gel and get it to lay down I thined it with 10% strait styrene and shot it through a 2.5 hvlp gun with the pressure up. I did a bunch of test shoots to figure out the pressure and coverage to try and minimize the oargepeal. Their was still A LOT of oarngepeal! Enough that I started sanding with 400 grit. To not sand through I got a tip from the guys at checkmate. They use dykem thined with asitone for guide coat. Worked better than the spray guide coat I was using. Started going to finer paper just before the guide coat was all gone. Then buff the hell out of it. I really need to find a better buffing compound the car stuff just doesn't cut. I will try to find some pics of the gas tank mounts. You can kinda see them in the other pic... It's hanging from the mounting tabs. It has six tabs with three screws each that screw into the stringers. I filled the screw holes with resin from a seringe and then put the screws back in. I really hated to put any screws in the stringers but that's how it's in their. |
same thing here, when dave says " i like to " i write down the keywords then draw it out after it's digested (crazy illustrated shorthand)
plus i search his post / threads and take the same kind of notes. my tank is getting installed similar to yours with the the tabs, but think the tabs will run full length and be taller as there is 3 1/2 inches from the top of the tank to the top of the stringers. gelcoat went the same for me. the thing about it is i want the project done and in the water, but hate to stop the glass and gel education |
The thread title has become misleading!
Started off replacing the transom and worked through to the pointy end, gutting everything along the way. Lots of hard work, looks like you're enjoying the learning aspect too. You'll have a Checkmate to be proud of when it's finished. Carry on, and keep posting...... :Score-101010: RR |
