trailer rail carpeting

Anyone know if it is necessary to use "trailer bunk carpeting" or can you use regular flat carpet? Also, what is typically used to fasten it to the bunks, mine looks like staples are they special stainless? thanks!

You can get the stainless staples from Home Depot.T50 style I think?

The carpet need to had the rubber jute backing/made for water, I just bought mine from Myco so it would match,$1 something a foot?

FWIW, they sell the same stuff at Lowes and Home Depot, but obviously not cut to fit. I think it's about $5/linear foot for 12ft sections. Should have it in black, blue and gray.

Same here.
Go to Home Depot you will save alot compared to a boat store.

Just redid my bunks and installed new fenders. Carpet is indoor/outdoor from Home Depot $26 for 8yds, $5 for some glue. Believe it or not, fenders came from Tractor Supply Company @ $53ea compared to $95ea on the web plus oversize freight charge.

Don't forget Lag screws.
Stainless steel ones add up in price. Home Depot sells them by the box.
Don't bother with coated steel ones, they will rust fast.

The way my trailer is set up is the bunks sit on a plate and screws go up thru the bottom(thru hole in plate then into the the wood). Yea Thru bolts is the way to go if you can do it that way.

Did you just counter sink the top of the thru bolts? Wish I would of went with bolts.
