Mine was black. I stripped the paint with BIX stripper from Home Depot. The metal is a little rough when done. I cut the bulk of the metal with an angle air grinder and a scotch type disc, then sanded with 600 wet and finally polished it. It is stainless so it takes alot more time to polish verses aluminum. But it looks good when done.
